11-1 with Okogie as starter. This needs to continue until DFS arrives and then they will switch it up (as their the exact same player). Not sure if anyone has actually been watching the games, but Okogie is an outstanding defender who is shutting down the other team’s best player on a nightly basis. Reed gets abused on defense on a nightly basis, but fans of all sports only focus on offense. Reed needs to be the spark off the bench when the offense stalls. The second you bench Okogie’s defense we’re back to the 0-2 Rockets. I’ll take 11-1 any day!!!

    *they’re

Also, you discredit yourself when you say that Okogie and DFS are the exact same player; they don’t even play the same position.

Further, Ime has been increasingly complimentary of Reed’s defense. I’ll take his opinion on that over yours.

And we’re undefeated with Sheppard as a starter. It wasn’t about Okogie, but rather that his starting unit made way more sense than the double big lineup. Start THIS version of Sheppard over that 12 game period instead of Okogie and I bet we would have gone 12-0.

Expanding further…..let’s say we start Reed and the team has one of their notorious offensive funks. Who you going to bring in to ignite the offense with Eason gone for weeks/months? Tate? Adams? Okogie? No, you are pretty much hosed and will likely lose a winnable game. Whitmore would have been a nice luxury to have, and then you could have enough offensive bench firepower to start Reed, but we gave him away so Reed not starting is the price to be paid.

Thats good info. Didnt know that. I also saw you mentioned they'd get a tpe because they filed the disabled player exemption.

    As far as upgrades...

I wouldnt mind getting malik monk for more scoring and shooting off the bench...

Recently, we've seen them not start Reed and that CAUSE the "offensive funk".

You don't bring your best guard off the bench just to say you did.

This is way too reductive. I hate the idea that we can’t run an offense just because our bench doesn’t have a “go to” offensive option. The solution is easy — stagger our starters with the bench. It’s not complicated.

Question - can he pick up is option now? In other words, if he’s okay with a deadline trade, can he pick up his option right before the trade to preserve his bird rights?

That sounds nice in theory, but you can’t have starters starting the second quarter. That is where Reed is needed and he thrives off the bench with Adams and Capella. He had a hot game last night and credit to him, but keep in mind the game before he started and only had 7 points. Prior to that 10 straight games of double digits. Team is better starting the game out with defense and still has enough offense with Sengun and KD.

I think they try to trade him for cap space, otherwise a backup.

These are valid points... and I'm good as long as Sheppard gets around 30 minutes a game. Sheppard brings elite shooting, which we have when Durant is in the game... We should seek to minimize the # of minutes where neither Durant nor Sheppard are in the game... that's when we lack shooting.

Nonsense. We had Amen and Sengun “starting” the second quarter last night. Then Bari and Reed came in. You can easily stagger starters so that two are always in and still have the starting unit finish, especially when KD comes back.

This isn’t a situation where we’re debating whether we should replace Okogie with a guy who is a little worse on defense but a little better on offense. We’re talking about replacing Okogie with a guy who is showing he is potentially a franchise player, potentially a budding star. That’s no exaggeration. The Warriors were treating Sheppard like a star. You don’t worry about “fit” in cases like that. You hand the keys to Sheppard and take the minor lumps.

To clarify - They could create a TPE with the disabled player exception.

The value of that exception is either the non-taxpayer MLE or half of the injured players salary, whichever is less. In this case, that's $12.5m, half of FVV's contract.

Player goes out, incoming player goes into the DPE rather than into returning cap space = TPE.

Thing is, I really don't expect any trades to happen - Looking at the roster, who would you trade?

Amen, Sengun, Durant, Jabari, Reed & Adams are off the table.

FVV can and probably will decline a trade.

You just signed Capela and DFS. Do you really want to send players the message they are just assets?

Tari - do you really want to trade him? His contract is only $ 5.7m. What are you getting in return?

Everyone else is on a minimum contract. $2,296,274. and at least 14 roster spots must be filled while remaining under the 1A.

Monk makes $18,797,619 - what's your matching salary? (Capela + DFS works as does FVV, if he allows it, however unlikely).

IF there is a move to be made, I expect it's a much smaller salary than Monk's, likely something that equals Tari's lone contract and that depends upon how the front office feels about their chances of resigning him to a reasonable deal.

There just isn't a lot of movable salary - salary that you want to move.

This team is so deep! Whenever DFS comes back, tough decisions will have to be made on rotations. Also JD Davison has looked good in the little minutes he played. That finish he had in transition with Draymond fouling was phenomenal.
