We don’t know that Green “had to go”. We do know they are trying to win now. They obviously weren’t going to trade Green and Brooks for nothing. They also were interested in Giannis. They were simply looking for a star to anchor their core in phase 3. According to Stone and the Rockets, they thought Durant fits better with what they are trying to accomplish. Key point here is they took a calculated risk. Trading 2 starters away changes the entire structure and dynamics of your team. This is often overlooked or taken lightly by fans or the media. They most likely knew that their defense would take a hit (which it has) and that their guard rotation would be thin and lack a starter that can get to the rim and move defenses. But they were willing to do it for better or worse.
How many years until JG is who he is? Jalen would have had to of made actual noticable progress over the past 4 years for the word potential to mean anything. Jalen, on his current contract, had little value; Phoenix did not even want him. They took him to get their lottery pick back. For a two to three year rental of KD, Phoenix got hosed. The Minnesota offer was more what KD's value was. I get it you're a huge Jalen supporter above anything, but like you said take the emotions out of it. Banking on Jalen's great potential is not a realistic bet anymore. Salud
nope. I said nothing about not trading green. I said nothing about supporting Green or showed any emotional attachment. My comment wasn’t focused on green. I said this team isn’t good enough to win it all and the trade doesn’t necessarily make this a better team as we have seen these first 14 games. But they gambled on Durant. Took that risk and here we are for better or worse.
