Can’t start the season with Cole or Melton starting. Not with this pitching staff. No sir. If they go into the season with one or both of them starting, and no significant upgrade at SP, I will just feel like they aren’t serious about winning. My expectations will be tempered to something like a 4th place finish. Might actually spend more time with my kids.
This is true, but when Altuve and Alvarez are your competition for worst OF on the team, you have some wiggle room.
He's best as a defenisve replacement. His offense last year was fool's gold and he was awful when he returned. His career home/road splits are also awful.
From now on I judge the roster based on a comparison to the 2019 Astros. This team is A$$ After tendering contracts to Sanchez plus signing Trammell and De Los Santos fangraphs has the CBT payroll at a little over 218 million. The luxury tax starts at 244 million. So the Astros have less than 26 million to fix this roster. They need to dump more salary. One or two of Walker, Paredes, and Pena need to go.
The Astros may be fully committed to trade for their SP2 ... and losing some of their best prospects.
In that case it needs to be Peralta, Joe Ryan, or MacKenzie Gore. Alcantara and Pablo Lopez make 21ish million each. That would eat up most of the payroll room the Astros have. I would call the Yankees and Blue Jays. Dangle Pena as part of a deal for Schlittler or Yesavage
He just drives me Fkn nuts with his strikeouts and then heading back to the dugout with a huge grin on his face
Not to nitpick but… Yordan, Peña, Diaz, Paredes, Meyers, Smith, Brown, Abreu, Arrighetti, Javier - all under 30. It is not remotely accurate to claim “most of their good players are over 30” - Correa and Hader + Altuve and Walker (who they’re actively trying to trade).
I stand corrected. Only note Id make is that Arrighetii and Smith have not been proven to be good players yet, and it’s debatable whether Diaz, Meyers, and Javier belong in that category. But yes, of their inarguably good players: Brown, Alvarez, Pena, Paredes, Correa, Altuve, Abreu, and Hader, only 3/8 are over 30.
I dont get why Dana is bringing these guys back unless he's going to be including them in future trades.
