Because we all know that's the first thing someone who crosses the border does -- take over radio stations.
Radio sucks. Its dead. It died about 8 years ago. I listen to old records, download mp3's from iTunes, go to Waterloo in Austin and listen to new ****, and read Rolling Stone for the lastest reviews on new albums.
You people can ridicule him all you want. The fact remains, this is ridiculous. The number of Spanish stations on the Houston airwaves is way too much in proportion to hispanics' share of the population. This was a boneheaded move.
that little running radio is one of the most engrained images in my mind of houston. that is the FIRST thing I remember when visiting this city the first time as a child. RIP
This is not a hoax. So stop with that talk. I did not mention the Clear Channel/790 tie because it seems that most people are aware of it. 740, 790, 950, 93.7, 94.5, 96.5, 99.1, 101...Am I missing anything else? they OWN Houston. And sadly, they are going to have some success with the national shows that erode locality and homogenize the country. I am sure in time the station will have a morning show as well but for now it is a turnkey operation with a PM drive show that will, honestly, be pretty darn good. Not as good as ours though....
Yeah. Dean and Rog is the best mornging show here IMO. I found the W&J multiple voice thing to be annoying as hell.
Not really. Eight stations out of roughly sixty in the market? There are more religious stations (with much less market share) than Spanish-speaking stations.
My uncle had a match box that had the original run away radio and a mar1juana leaf on the other side. 33 years. RIP KLOL. Clear Channel, this blows.
There are 18 spanish stations. 10 on the AM dial. 8 on FM. And let us not forget the fact that this is the United States, not Mexico.
Im just blown away by this move.... Ill admit I didnt listen to 101 as much anymore cause it was too much newer rock that I dont really like that much...but still...we only have 3 rock stations in Houston...and I grew up istening to 101... Well.....looks like it is either 93.7, ACR or cds for me... Its funny tho....my wife said the same thing yall are saying when I told her...."Just what we need, ANOTHER latino station...isnt there already a million of them?" needless to say...Im totally bummed... oh..and btw...101 is not and was not "Classic Rock"....they played some older rock from time to time...but they were heavily dependant on newer stuff...Godsmack, Nickleback and their ilk.... If you are unsure of what classic rock is...tune into 93.7....that is classic rock... ok...who has money around here....time to start a new "real rock" station like the Big Dog out of Beaumont...
agreed. to hell with all the damn spanish stations. my mom's mexican and she cant even stand 'em. i am royally pissed that 101 is gone. that's basically the only station i listen too when i'm in town. BULLSH!T.
