He's too inefficient, injury-prone, and not good enough defensively. Would take the ball out of the hands of more-efficient players we already have. I'm a hard pass on LaMelo. I don't want to make any splashy moves for stars right now. We should hold onto our flexibility and only think about that when the KD era has ended or is coming to an end.
One of the last players in the NBA I want on the Rockets. He's very expensive and very unreliable. Lamelo is the best definition of Fool's Gold you can find in the NBA.
This team doesn't need a heavy USG PG, they need a guy that can play defense and make open shots. Sengun and Durant are the facilitators.
I'd have been very interested in a Lamelo gamble if that was our offseason trade Jalen Green move. Zero interest whatsoever now, though.
Great player but I have serious concerns about his maturity levels. Our players are young but they don’t act like children like Ball. Lonzo would’ve been great as a Fred insurance pickup.
Maybe a year ago I'd consider it but we're now in a title window and don't have time for Ime to mold him into a winning player. I think Charlotte is equally responsible for his poor development. **** show over there. Hope someone teaches him to grow up.
The thing is that the fully realized version of LaMelo is pretty elite. 6-7 PG who can shoot and pass and doesn't turn it over too much relative to his usage (I know he sucks this year but he's been pretty good overall). You could easily imagine him driving an offense like Halliburton on a good team At age 24 he's still got a good chance of heading back to that. Even if he never becomes an elite defender at 6-7 you can do things with him that you can't with Trae Young . I doubt the Rockets are interested now but it is suboptimal for the long term that their current style of play is a 3 legged stool with 2 of those legs being a 37 year old playing 36 minutes a night and a 32 year old back up C
Yeah, that's the thing, I could see the argument before we got KD (though I still think Ball's injury history makes him a bad investment unless/until he proves he can stay on the court). I can see the argument after KD, and "after" is coming fairly soon. I just don't see it right now.
I've been advocating for Lonzo for years. Cheap backup that would fit our system nearly perfectly. Don't see the Cavs dealing him though.
