So I’m guessing y'all are not ready to talk about Amen Thompson.

Can Amen become more a playmaker is the better question than can he be a point guard?

Right now he is guarding the best player on the other team that isn't big man which is his primary duty. I'm not too worried about his play making at this point since our double big lineup reduces spacing that Amen would need to excel.

It's a lot easier to just roam around on offense looking for lobs, cuts and offensive rebounds. Amen can always go back to that when we get a pg, so I'm not worried.

It makes sense that he's not comfortable being the main ball handler, because now he has to read the court, do more creating from scratch. Right now we are winning, and he's learning, so I'm not mad that his production is dropping. But I don't really see him as the main PG.

He is pretty consistent, he hasn't had any real stinkers yet....even his bad game he was 3-9 on threes.

I'm not sure this is the case at all. People were merciless about Reed after his first couple of games this season.

I don't think you can blame people too much after he exploded onto the scene when he became a starter last year, but regardless, I'm beginning to agree with you. I was SUPER hyped on Amen as of the end of last season, but even before the season started, I realized he may not be on the trajectory we thought. He still has glaring weaknesses that are not likely to go away even if Amen has an above average work ethic.

I think maybe Ben Simmons is another fair comparison to put in there. That is a favorable one, too. Simmons had the potential to be really effin good if not for injuries and also just completely losing all confidence in himself on offense. Kinda wonder if a sports psychologist or something would have helped. But I digress. Amen is great, and we are right to be excited about the fact that he is a Rocket... but he is probably not going to be the one carrying this franchise on his back.

When OKC won the championship their point guard was Shai. I wouldn't consider him a traditional point guard at all. We can easily run a similar offensive set up to them with KD and Sengun as the isolation threats.

Yup. People were calling Reed a bust after his first game last year.

Yeah, since we are winning, mostly on the back of Sengun and Durant, it's fine to experiment with the young guys and let them learn. This is same with Amen (for his new roles) and Reed (for everything on the court). We have a good margin of error at this time.

After a substantial period, we can evaluate how these roles can go forward.

We don't miss FVV with Amen at the 1 because of Sengun's improved playmaking and Durant's scoring power. We still have too few reliable ball handlers. Hopefully Amen and Reed will get better and better.

I think he's been doing a good job as a secondary playmaker this season. He's absolutely not ready to be a full time PG but can't complain much about his passing. Not worried about his finishing either, it will fix itself as the season goes. If his defense gets to last year's level then we're good.

I see Hakeem in his shooting form when he is crossing the key. Unfortunately it just hasn't been dropping to start the season.

Maybe practice the 3 behind closed doors and don't unveil til 2027. I'd rather Amen get 2 sure dunks than 2 misses from threes.
That would fix his fg% to 58
