Calm down, Isaac Paredes is the new Dubon.

I'm guessing Correa sees some 2B reps in case Altuve goes down.

I don't fault them for dumping the salary. I do wish we could have gotten a couple low level guys to develop. I fee with Allen we can just keep a Brendan Rogers or something instead.

Like when they moved on from Robel to Dubon...

Hoping they run into something with Allen.... if not, no harm at that salary.

That's a vast overpay for Roberts after his last 2 seasons.

My lasting Dubon memory isn't a good one. He may have had the worst at bat in Astros history. 2023 ALCS game 6, 8th inning, down 2 runs, bases loaded and 1 out, pitcher couldn't find the strike zone, Dubon swings at the first two pitches that might have been throw overs to first base, then flings the bat at the 3rd pitch that was only halfway to first base for a weak pop out. Then Dusty conceeds the season and pinch hits Singleton who strikes out.

I would have more confidence in this if Urias and Sanchez were not negatives after the trade deadline.

Urias isn’t on the team anymore either so not sure how he plays into this…

    That would suck.
How about Robert + a prospect for Meyers?

I am fine with it. Astros tried to get a reliever but market just wasn’t there.

I actually like Allen’s glove more than Dubon’s.

I don’t really miss Dubon. I liked that he was decent at SS but that’s about it.

I don’t know if Allen makes the team, but my suspicion is he does. Astros will rest Altuve, Alvarez, Correa more this year so someone like Allen at the end of the bench has value.

Nick Allen appears to be slotted for the backup IF role ... late inning defensive replacement and emergency starter. Dubón for his Astros career was more than that, but that comes with a higher price. The Astros need to land a FA pitcher which likely will not be cheap, so they needed Dubón's salary (5.8M) to make that happen.

Astros acquire Nick Allen from Braves, deal Dubón to Atlanta

Allen, 27, slashed .221/.284/.251 with 11 doubles, 32 runs, 22 RBIs and eight stolen bases in 135 games with the Braves last season. He was a finalist for the National League Gold Glove Award at shortstop after ranking fourth in outs above average (17) in the NL. He’s also played second base and shortstop in the big leagues.

“I think it’s a potential upside play,” Brown said. “You’re getting a little bit younger in your utility role. It’s a former high pick, he’s the speed package, he’s a really good defender on the infield. In the outfield, I don’t think we were going to need Dubón to play as much outfield next year. I think we’re a little stacked on the infield, as people already know.”

The Astros have a glut of infielders after trading for Carlos Correa on July 31 to play third base, where Isaac Paredes became an All-Star before missing two months with a right hamstring strain. The Astros also have an All-Star at shortstop in Jeremy Peña, so Paredes might move around the diamond more in 2026 if he’s not traded.

What speed? Dude has 16 career sb in almost 400 games.
sure he might have a good glove but he hit 0 homers last year, is a .213 career hitter, and has an ops of 520. He also strikes out a ton.
He’s an absolute black hole at the plate

Yeah I don’t see the upside Brown referenced. He’s a pure glove player. He has below average speed. Zero power. An average arm. He’s not playing the outfield, and probably wouldn’t even be very good at 3B. He’s good at making contact in the zone but doesn’t barrel balls and has very poor bat speed. He’s an elite defender at SS or 2B but that’s the sum total of his value, every other aspect of his game is a negative relative to a replacement player. He can have $5M worth of value as a 13th man who regularly subs in late in games where Houston has the lead, especially since they will be playing Avery weak defender at 2B every day in Altuve. But that’s his value, nothing more.

Man.................Dubi was a Swiss army knife and finally got in the HEB commercials, the dude played almost every day and wasn't that expensive compared to others, if its a salary dump ok, but then you trade him for Allen who sucks at the plate, I`ll hold out judgement but on the surface, this looks horrible

Budget casualty. The depth keeps getting eroded. Understand the deal, but it is a reminder that the Astros are not in a position of strength relative to the cost of their players getting high.

Yep, they are in borrow from Peter to pay Paul mode. Something will have to give, either the farm takes a dramatic upturn or they will have to rebuild (or at least not get any better until they wait out all their big contracts).
