I think that's a big part of the problem, those who grew up watching Derrick Rose, Westbrook, Kyrie, and Harden have essentially no clue what a PG is actually supposed to do.
If anything Reed isn't getting enough catch and shoot opportunities, even KD is assisted on a higher number of FG's than Reed. BBR has its sorted by and 2's and 3's, not overall. Reed and Sengun are basically dead even in terms of lowest assisted rate on the team.
Nah, I think we got lucky there playing Reed and Holiday at the same time. Too easy for other teams to score on them, wastes the advantage. When they're paired with Amen and Okogie they can be hidden better.
This is exactly correct they were actually playing the two bigs which forces zone and Reed and Holiday at the same time. Reed had a bad defensive game and part of the problem is his lack of length which is a real problem when playing zone. Reed should always play with either Okogie or Amen so his defensive mistakes don’t lessen his offensive contribution, which is bordering on great the last 5 games or so. We had 3 guys that had sub par first half’s and Reed’s offense kept us close. His defense was bad, however, and he didn’t get to play much in crunch time as a result. I think he is better in man defense and also blocks out better which is hard for everyone when playing zone.
I can't see anything he posts, but that sounds like some back handed compliment for a reason he shouldn't be starting. When Reed struggled to get a footing last year we heard about it. When Reed had poor moments in summer league, we heard about it. When he gets "picked on" or beat on defense....we hear about it...We hear about how people who wanted him are fools and we should've picked Brick Castle, Stiff Clingan, Devin "can't get on the floor for Sac" Carter...Had to hear about Jared McCain being the far superior player..Hell there's a thread around here about gah damn Yuki Kawamura being better than Reed.... And now that he's shining we supposed to be quiet, sit back and be humble???? LMAO...Where was this kumbaya "support our Rockets players" attitude when people were reveling in "being right" about him being a bust? That's not how the internet works....You lose some and you win some...And the ones you lose you sweep under the rug and the ones you win you shout it from the rooftops LMAO.... Reeds fans up 100 right now and as long as it stays that way we gonna let yall know
Confidence is one hell of a drug. Something must have triggered it, maybe we’ll learn more about that later. Keep it up, Sniper.
I really really need Ime to pull up GSW tape and start running Curry esque off ball plays for Reed. A guy that good at shooting needs to be putting up 15-18 shots a game. Şengün is a fantastic player but he doesn’t need to be launching 30 balls a game.
Let's keep in mind Reed is doing this against lower tiered teams and a mix of 2nd unit players(injured Magic team, Blazers, Wizards, Spurs missing their staring PG, a weaker Griz team, Mavs, injured Celtics, etc). He does look good, but I think Ime has been more thoughtful about matchups when managing minutes so far this year. I don't think Reed is "surefire starter" just yet - he has been a real spark plug against these teams but I don't think there is a rush to get him into the starting lineup. His minutes are increasing to starter type minutes - let's just continue to find opportunities for him to succeed in the lineup and build confidence and that should continue to translate into wins. We are 3rd in the West and lead the league in net rating - there is no reason at all to push a guy who hardly played last year into the starting lineup after 8 solid games.
I don't think Reed's defense was demonstrably worse like some of the last few pages make it seem. I do think the Magic just did an outstanding job, Wagner in particular, of hunting that matchup and executing until they got it. There was that one portion of the game in the 3rd quarter where Reed checked-in, goes down and immediately gets a bucket, then Franz hunts the switch and Reed picks up a shooting foul giving up ft's. That happened on 3 straight possessions where Reed would score and Franz would come down, get the switch, and draw the foul. So I think part of the sentiment on defense from last night is just Franz's efficiency and execution at getting the mismatch. Credit where it's due. The few times Bane got him off the dribble are troubling but that's who Reed has always been. Nothing particularly new or surprising about that and he'll get better at keeping bigger/stronger guards in front of him. I like that the kid doesn't give free layups regardless of the matchup. He's perfectly fine hard-fouling bigs that are known to swing on people like Bobby Portis (the look on Portis's face when Reed threw him to the ground as part of a swipe at the ball was disbelief haha). And he's got some "any means necessary" to him as evidenced by the trip.
He's been our most entertaining player for me so far this season. Love watching his progress. He's gonna be an integral part of this team moving forward.
Isn't this very pointless to hold a grudge against? I mean do you really want to hear the people who wanted Kawhi Leonard over Marcus Morris to tell you year after year after Kawhi led the Spurs to championships about how bad Marcus Morris was? Do you want all the people who wanted Mobley over Jalen to be gloating right now? Do you want there to be people talking over and over about how the Rockets took Jabari over Jalen Williams while Jalen Williams was being the 2nd best player on a championship team and making All-NBA? The Rockets aren't infallible and have taken plenty of bad picks. Unless you think it's fun to list all the stuff they screwed up on, why not just enjoy the Ws and understand these are hard to come by.
Let's avoid hyperbole here plz. Those 30 shots were legit double what Sengun is averaging "a game" this season. Outliers will happen. Not only that, but a decent handful of those shots were collected on a couple plays with consecutive misses and offensive rebounds. And it was an incredibly tight game with overtime, meaning we lean on the stars more for big plays, and he played eight minutes more than his average. But yes, I'm all for trying to get Reed some good off-ball looks. If he's gonna take shots away from people, it should probably be Amen or Jabari... not that either of them are playing particularly badly, either. Although it seems like a good chunk of Reed's made shots are off the dribble and of his own creation. I haven't seen if there are numbers with a comparison, but it's not yet totally clear to me that he's that much more comfortable on catch-and-shoot looks.
Averaging four catch and shoot three attempts a game at 46%. I was kind of expecting it to be a little lower.
That’s fair on it being an out lier but the main gripe is that there were long stretches that they were using Reed as a guy sitting in a corner to provide space. Teams have already adjusted. They aren’t leaving him anymore. It’s time to run plays to get him the ball more rather than rely on Durant and Şengün isos.
EDIT: Never mind. The NBA.com play-by-play does link to video clips for fouls. ------------------------------------ Do you have a time when this happened? I'd like to go back and look for myself, but NBA.com's box score doesn't provide video clips for fouls.
