The conspiracy theory is that he didn't extend his arms on the standing reach measurement....a measurement that matters significantly more than max vert, to artificially inflate his max vert number.

Why he'd do this? No clue.

How he'd do this and impact the measurement by more than half an inch without anyone noticing? No clue

Conspiracy theories like this aren't exactly beholden to trivial things like logic and reality.

A two-handed slams by a 42” vert player don’t have to be flashy, and they:re damn sure safe. Reed just went for the tomahawk here, and changed his mind mid-air after realizing he didn’t jump high enough.

come on, guys. We’re just having fun here, but ppl tied to narratives forget how to have fun …

Time to start him. Go ahead and get the inevitable out the way early so these guys will have lots of playing time together under their belt by the time the playoffs start.

    There is no “trick”.
Most players getting tested will tighten their deltoid to make it seem like it’s fully extended when it’s up.
Testers know this. Rule of thumb is the shoulder has to touch the ear, with an open shoulder angle and fully stretched elbow and wrist.
Players will do a version of a shrug to try and gain an inch-maybe two at the absolute most. Depending on body type. That usually helps guys that are already longer in standing reach and overall arm length.

Reed jokingly said he gamed the system, self deprecatingly. In reality, you aren’t gaming these scouts and testers.

I’m ready to see Reed start, but I can see both sides. Right now, starting both Amen and Okogie is a bit clunky, as they are both “non-shooters”. I know Josh has a pretty high 3 point percentage now (45%), but he’s a career 31% shooter, so I expect that to regress to the mean - he’s also taking fewer than 3 attempts per game. I bet you the other teams would live with him shooting open threes all day. Insert Reed into the starting lineup, other teams are starting to learn that you can’t leave him open. They won’t be able to sag off of him. Also, he looks much more comfortable running the offense right now than Amen, so why not take some of that pressure off Amen. Amen’s defense does not look the same this year, and I wonder if part of that is the added responsibilities on offense. Give Reed the keys.

On the other hand, I went back and looked at minutes played, and Reed has played more minutes than Josh 4 of the last 5 games (that 5th game was basically even). He’s coming off the bench, but he’s basically playing starter’s minutes, as he’s playing the 5th most minutes over that stretch. With Tari out, I do like the spark Reed provides off the bench. You can tell he’s a good teammate, purely based on how his teammates get hyped when he does something. It’s great to have that punch (trip? Too soon?) coming off the bench. The crowd is the same way. He’s a fan favorite, even though he’s been dragged through the mud on here at times (fairly or unfairly). He seems to be getting some minutes with the big 3 midway through the 2nd/4th quarters, so he’s getting to run with that starting unit anyhow. I worry if we put him as a starter, now your spark off the bench is Holiday? Okogie?

Either way, great to see this sustained level from Reed. I think as long as his confidence is there, his game will continue to develop. I have to say I don’t mind that little bit of mean streak yesterday with Bane. Bane is just awful (oh and I know it’s been said, but F Scott Foster). Dude hit him in the head, I would’ve tripped him too for standing over me barking at me. Probably mad about that earlier pullback 3 in his grill.

I love how all the reed haters disappeared. The annoying thing is they’re not even gonna learn a lesson and realize that they know very little about basketball. You could see when he got time and usage the type of player he was. Did it mean he was for sure going to breakout…no … but you should question your basketball IQ and understanding if you didn’t at least see this as possible

I still haven’t seen him create off the dribble…. If he can’t create off the dribble and drive to the rim then he’s not a star.

That's funny because I remember them clamoring that they'd be in here cheering if Reed did good. And yet....

Whether Reed will become an All-Star is irrelevant to me. Can he help the Rockets win? I think he can.

The only person I see consistently pessimistic about Reed here is roslolian, and his most recent post talks about how Reed is the engine of the 2nd unit.

Instead of finding some joy over the perceived incorrectness of opinions held by some unknown number of people on the internet over a sports player none of us actually know irl, maybe it's better to be positive and just show joy that a young player is finally blossoming into a player we enjoy watching on TV and helping the team win. In the end everyone who bothers to spend their free time on this place is clearly a Rockets fan and want the Rockets to win. Even if we may differ on what we feel is the correct path to that ultimate goal.

Exactly this. I don't care if he ever makes an all star game... he makes those around him better and that's all that matters

The star stuff doesn't really matter to me and is really just goal post moving....but....What do you mean by "create of the dribble" ?

Are you talking about looking like Harden or Kyrie?

Or just dribbling and creating a shot for himself or others?

If it's the first one, then you'll never see that.

If it's the second one, he's done that multiple times this season. He dribbles into that middy pull up quite often. A few times he's been able to get all the way to the basket for layups. This past game we saw him dribble into that snatchback and hit the three ball on Bane.

He's definitely shown the bones or building blocks for becoming a big threat with off the dribble creation.

I think someone posted a stat that Reed shot better off the dribble, something like 60% from 3 off the dribble. That doesn't prove that those dribble shots were creations. But it does show that he is more than capable at making shots on the move. I want to see him in PnR situation where the defense has to worry about him shooting off a screen if they don't switch on him. That would open up the roll man's lane.
