I used to be a big fan of him but whatever happen to this guy fancy And-1 styled game? I remembered 5 years ago when he was with Sacramento, he was the ultimate high light reel for ESPN and for good reason. He does some of the most rediculous and hard to pull off moves and passes during those times. He would make his opponent such as Kobe,Vince and even MJ look stupid with his cross-overs and passes. I know that he was traded for Bibby in favor of a more mature and easier to discipline guard but my, how I miss his game and I always hoped he will be unleash to going back to play his old ways. I'm thinking he has grown out of it and probally will never go back, but he was fun to watch for sure even though his game doesn't fit with the team. Now, hes just a mediorce player with very little acrobatic skill that he once had. Oh well, players like that can't keep going forever i guess.
rafer alston, AKA skip to my lou, can do all that stuff too...but it's frowned upon in the nba, so i guess jason stopped...
Man, i do feel bad for white chocalate. He was one of the key pieces that transformed the Sac Kings from bottom feeder to a perenial contendar. Sure, the Bibby trade pushed them over the top, but JW is still a great pg. His numbers last year pretty much proved that he can play structured. What he needs to do now is add a little flash every now and then, because believe it or not, it does affect the morale and overall out come of the game. Just don't do it where it would be negatively impact.
He had to mature as a player because I think he realized his career wouldn't go far if he didn't. Remember he was benched in the playoffs as a King because he'd throw up wild threes, botch passes and was unbelievably out of control many of times.
He ditched all off that streetball crap to become more effective as a player. It worked too. He was a much better PG under Hubie than he ever was in Sacramento.
How much you wanna bet now that he toned down, his next contract would be smaller than his current one (inflation adjusted ofcourse )
its true that he's a better pg now, but he has completely toned down. i remember he had the best behind the back fake pass which was effective too, but it hasn't been used in a while. I just wish he could strike a balance somewhere between his two personalities.
I can'r remember if it was last season or the season before, he was trying to inbound the ball, Steve was on him, and the Rockets were pressuring. Steve had his back turned to JW, watching the other guys, I guess getting ready to run over and foul whoever caught the ball. So JW bounced the ball off of Stevie's a$$ and caught it himself. Even though he did that to one of our guys, that was still one of my favorite plays of all time. It's up there with the kiss of death and Boki punking Karla.
Yeah Pippen did it off Barkley’s butt. However it must be noted that Pippen had a much larger target to bounce it off of. What year was that? 93’ finals, it think.
That's what pisses me off. J-Dub is what MADE Sacramento basketball what it is today. Nobody cared about them until Williams lit the city up with his flashy play. It wasn't til he came that attendence shot through the roof, then they traded him once they got really good.
What a crazy post (combined with some crazy follow-ups as well). Williams may have been flashier then, but is ten times the player now than he was 4 or 5 years ago by toning down the showboating. He went from the perennial league leader in turnovers to being one of the league's best in asisst-turnover ratio. And-1 mindset basketball is what is killing the NBA - too many players are concerned with the flash over the substance.
He was an all star point guard 4 or 5 years ago. Yes he was out of control at times, but he can completely change the game at other times. Can he do that now?
well how about he can help them win more games? He may not dominate one on one like before (if he ever did) but he still contributes and is more of a leader now. J
