My favorite thing about the offense this year: we are last in the league in 3-pt attempts and first in the league in 3-point percentage. Not only are we more efficient, but the games themselves are a helluva lot more fun to watch.
it's crazy that we are #1 in O-rating despite still looking very out of sorts and clunky at times. looking forward to seeing how we can free up KD to be more in the flow of things.
Brooks wasn't that great. Look at his current efficiency, why would you want that over Eason, Durant, Smith, or Okogie?
I also love the less threes, but more efficient approach. It helps to have Amen, KD & Sengun operating in the mid-range and paint area. Better competition coming though and KD has been far from great on offense, so let’s see how we look come December. Good sign regardless
Not only Jalen's shots but Fred was even less efficient than him .483 eFG to Jalen's .505. That's a combined 30ish shots per game that have been eliminated - now taken by KD, Amen & Sengun for the most part - all very efficient shooters. The only thing I question is if the team as a whole can keep up the 40%+ from deep .... Tari and Okogie are over 50% and Sengun at ~42%. I really don't expect them to finish the season anywhere close to those numbers.
He was fairly decent for us last year. I'm going based off of his numbers/efficiency in our system. I don't think its fair to compare to 3 games on the Suns.
Except we are terrible at mid-range and in the paint (oustide Restricted Area). Exchange those shots for 30% 3pt% and it's a huge upgrade. Here's our current midrange % for the year. Even KD hasn't been good. ---------------------------------------------------------- Sengun 26.7% Thompson 18.2% Durant 41.3% Sheppard 38.5% Eason 0% Smith 23.1% Okogie 0% Points in the pain - outside restricted area -------------------------------------------------------- Sengun 38.1% Thompson 29.8% Smith 46.2% Okogie 50% ( 2 total attempts for the year) Durant 45.2% Sheppard 45.5% Eason 20%
I don’t care about turnovers if we are scoring 125-135 points a game. Our defense will get better and get more turnovers as we play less zone and 2 bigs lineup. Amen is getting back his 3 pt improvement he exhibited in the pre-season (5 of his last 11), Sengun needs to keep shooting 3’s without hesitation. I have seen more hesitation recently. Okogie will probably regress a bit, but I think he will shoot acceptably all year. Not having FVV and Jalen hogging the usage is an immense plus for our offense. Okogie is an improvement on Fred in the defense. Our problems are on defense when playing zone and the two bigs lineup force it. Adams can’t guard a light pole outside of 4 foot from the goal.
You missed that against defensive teams Mavs, Spurs, Pistons, they were scoring 110-115 ppg.....that is close to last year. And only 124 in the Thunder game because it went to Double Overtime. Regulation 104-105 ppg both teams. Again they were beating up on either bad teams or mediocre teams without their superstar. It gives you a false sense of optimism when you don't look at the opponents they were facing.
i get it, but the spacing is much better than last year and that will improve the offense when they get used to each other which will allow the turnovers to go down. Do you seriously believe that Amen and Durant won't improve? 8 turnovers for Durant last game.
The main rivals - OKC (Big Gap) Denver and Spurs Honorable dark horses - Knicks, Detroit, Miami, Portland, *LAL, Minny.....
It's probably been said but to be clear offensive rating and points scored are not the same thing. The improvement in offensive rating speaks directly to improved efficiency. And I hear you on the pt distribution for good vs bad teams but if we're scoring the same as last year's avg against good teams but way above against bad teams by definition we're still scoring a fair bit more. Here are last year's splits: Rox vs 1-4: 113.8 ppg | 114.9 Oppg. This ignores the last 2 games of the year when starters sat. Rox vs 11-15: 119.0 ppg | 106.7 Oppg. We played good-to-great teams roughly even last year and we blew out bad teams. Notably, our PPG was +5, it's the defense that saw the majority of the net gain at +8.
Dude, you can’t compare our scores against the best opponents we faced this season to last year’s overall average. Putting up 110+ against a good defensive team is really solid. Last season, we scored 105 or fewer points 20 times, less than 100 12 times. I’m not sure we’ll score fewer than 110 more more than 10 times this season.
Don’t want to jinx this thread, but quick-hitting Money plays off of made baskets is a great sign of structure and chemistry
3. Can’t leave Reed to help I’d say! After those two 3s from waaaayyy downtown the lanes really opened up when he was in the game. Reed didn’t even shoot that well for % but the two big 3s early were a statement. I like the Adams, Reed, KD group. Feels like really good chemistry happening there.
