We’ve seen this story hundreds of times. Has a great game. Get excited. Next game 9 points 3-15 shooting. 2 great games in a row.. 3 stinkers in a row. Plays games when it matters (playoffs) and has 1 good game out of 7. The dude is who he is. A streaky scorer against average to below average teams. And when competition stiffens he shrinks and crumbles. Wish him the best, but that ship has sailed.
I guess what I'm saying is that even if it's more likely than not that that's his ceiling, but it's also not *entirely foreclosed* for him to have 2 good playoff games out of seven, or 3 great games and 2 stinkers - there's a non-zero chance of him taking a leap.
I still think it was stupid to give up on green after one playoff series, but I understood why. we wanted to win after overachieving to a 2nd seed. Sure we got kd but now we put ourselves on a timer. If only kd was a bit younger.
Green had a great first game with Phoenix, we all know that he can do that, it's never the problem. We also all know that he's going to shoot 33 percent on stupid volume and take that great game right back away from them probably sooner rather than later. Until he finds some consistency, as much as I like him, his overall game won't be missed here. Having said that, I do think Phoenix will have won that trade when it's all said and done. I think Jalen will figure it out eventually, but RIGHT NOW Durant is just far superior if he can stay healthy. Wish Jalen the best though.
JG will look like Kobe one night and then look like Ricky Davis the next. I hope he figures it out and becomes a superstar.
I'm with you on wishing Jalen the best except against Rockets. Butler wasn't his matchup though. It was Steph, Pods & Hield mostly.
it's highly possible - that the Rockets go further this year with Durant than with Green/Brooks and that Green improves as a player - it doens't have to be zero sum gain. Also Durant could flame out and Jalen could get traded, life contains multitudes.
Funny how only Jalen couldn't fit with alpi. Clogging the paint is kind of played out at this point, considering Amen finds a way to continue to get better.
I don't know if we're on as much of a timer as you'd think. Maybe we are on one iteration of our window, but our window doesn't stop with Durant. In two years you'll have Sengun and Amen 2 years better and already gone through some tough playoff battles and hopefully won a ring (or two!). We'll still have Jabari and potentially Tari (or whoever we might trade him for). We currently still have a surplus of picks and will be great destination for players to come . Most of the time you see contenders in situations where they can't keep all of their players or they aren't able to make big trades because they do not have the pieces. Rockets will be set up to compete now and in the future -- just in two or more different variations. That being said, opportunities do not last long and we should act with some sense of urgency without compromising our whole future in the process.
Yeah, I think it's highly likely he is what he is at this point, but there's still a chance that he improves his consistency, or at least has one or two really good flash in the pan years at his peak where he actually looks like a legit All-NBA guy, i.e. Brad Beal scoring 30+ a game for a couple of years there. I don't think we're going regret trading him but you never know.
Here’s the reality with Jalen. Could he become a star in this league? It’s still possible. But what’s certain is that it’ll take him a much longer time to figure it out IF he does. It’ll take a lot of mistakes and failures, lots of poor playoff outings for him to learn. If he gets there it’ll be after lots of disappointing performances. we don’t have that type of runway and court minutes to spend on that arc of development. And because his game relies so much on his athleticism, by the time he does figure it out (if he does), his window of stardom will be short lived. He’s too risky of an investment to spend the time and money on.
Did anyone actually watch that game or just more pushing of the tired narrative? I haven't had time to watch the full game but I did watch all his shots from NBA.com and while the counting stats look great he was clearly coming in to shoot a lot considering he put up 20 shots in 22 minutes and there were times when finding a wide open Grayson Allen probably would have been the smarter play instead of hitting a touch contested shot. At least in that respect it was a similar Jalen game to what I remember here in Houston although Jalen was hitting those tough shots on that night against an injury depleted Clippers team.
Same - the kid is talented and still young. He is clearly an NBA level player - its just a matter of what you need him for. Ultimately we needed a #1 guy and he was more valuable as a trade chip to get that guy(albeit an aging version of that guy) than he was as 'that guy'. In other context, in another role - Jalen might be the prefect fit on another team - wish him luck in finding that fit.
I watched the game. He played well, found his teammates when he needed too and mostly hit the shots he was given. It was a good Jalen Green game. We've all seen a game like this from him before. Doesn't change my mind on him though. If he was this good all the time he'd still be here. Simple as that.
I still believe that Ime should bear more responsibility for the playoff loss than Green. Green exploded for 38 points in Game 2, so Kerr started double-teaming Green in Game 3, and Ime didn't make any adjustments to counter it. He was like:"You guys double-team Green? Perfect, I'll just have Green be a distraction and pass the ball out." In the last three games, Green averaged less than 11 field goal attempts, with a usage rate of only 15%, even lower than Dillon. If this wasn't Ime's instruction, I don't believe Green would be so passive, considering he still took almost 20 shots in Game 1 despite his poor performance. At the end of the day, the distraction player who only took 11 shots took the main blame for the series loss. Is that even fair?
