There is absolutely zero reason the airlines cannot pay for air traffic control, the same way they pay for fuel or the same way their customers pay for them to schedule flights. It doesn't have to be a system run by the government at all. So yes, we don't need the government to provide air traffic controllers.
I'm not sure I would trust air traffic control to be privatized. When ATC goes wrong, it has a very substantial bleed effect that touches everyone and does not stay confined to just the owners and users of one particular brand or service. Add in the conflicts of interest that would arise from the inherit competition and it seems like a neutral governing body is really necessary to keep things both safe and fair. I'm not opposed to private ATC entirely (or perhaps making it a state level function instead of federal), especially as a redundant system. But the airlines themselves really ought to stay out of it IMO.
Indeed. Let's allow the airlines develop their own inspection criteria and have them pay for accident investigations as well. Let the airplane manufacturers do their own design and production line oversight while we are at it. What could go wrong? OK, maybe you have sections of a plane fall off during flight, but that is just the cost of doing business. Caveat emptor, right? By the way, there are airplanes out there that are not part of an airline. Hell, there are 15,000 private jets just in the US. Throw in prop planes and helicopters along with military aircraft and you have a huge number. Also, there are countless studies showing that given time, profit motive always asserts itself over safety. Air safety is an inherent government function.
I would certainly feel free and full of liberty if a cargo plane fell on top of my home because the shareholders made some more money.
Hard to say where DOGE ends and shutdown begins, so I'll post this here: We have significantly reduced the number of inspectors looking at food imports. https://www.propublica.org/article/foreign-food-safety-inspections-historic-low-fda If you can stomach it, read the whole article for particulars. It seems that not only is this administration hellbent on starving people, they are also a big fan of pathogens in the food that does it make it to Americans.
I like you as a poster so I'll respect your opinion but I don't at all. His opinions aren't accurate and he speaks like a know it all
You would conclude incorrectly. I had my own law practice for 5 years. The airlines wouldn't have their own individual ATCs, they would just pay into a system (think Underwriters Laboratories). There wouldn't be conflicts of interest, because the interests of the ATCs would be the same as they are now (to safely and quickly direct air traffic). The added benefit would be that when and if there is a screw up, there is someone to hold accountable, financially. The non-associated aircraft can easily pay into the same system (each paying substantially less than an airline, of course). And just like manufacturers of every product, yes, airplane manufacturers should be responsible for overseeing their own production lines.
Our Vice-President: "The president and the entire administration are working on that, but we’re not going to do it under the orders of a federal judge. We’re going to do it according to what we think we have to do to comply with the law." No, really! I was gonna clean my room later but since you told me to clean my room before I can go out an play, I'm not gonna do it and you can't make me.
That's a man looking at his own mortality and scared after witnessing such a scene. He appears to be thinking "maybe I should have considered Pascal's wager in the grand scheme of things." Probably a bit late for that...
Lol.. Trump is such a celebrity-w***e. Good to see he's working hard to end the shutdown! Art of the Deal!
Airspace is sovereign territory. They can pay for government services, but they cannot control or operate it.
Well now, with the air travel mess, food prices, and a good chunk of Americans scared to gather in public, this administration is creating a war on Thanksgiving and seems determined to show everyone what a real War on Christmas looks like.
