I loved that play. I don't know how on earth the refs didn't see Pau with the arm lock on Yao. Blatant foul. Should have been an AND 1.
actually, on that play I'm glad it was a no-call, as it should have been made before the rebound and basket.

The Grizz are not a tough team and I don't like it. With a Frontline of PAU GASOL & STROMILE SWIFT we look athletic, BUT WE ARE SOFT! NO TOUGHNESS! WEAK! WEAK! WEAK! Yes Lorenzen is at least a tough guy even though he is not that big or talented. I give him credit for at least trying and being tough. Pau and Stromile are SOFT!!! It pisses me off. We need some toughness with our big guys or we are going to get manhandled AGAIN in the playoffs. I know a lot of other players had bad games too, but I can see that in the Playoffs we are going to get manhandled again. Pau Gasol needs to toughen up! Get mean! Get 20 rebounds like Kevin Garnett or dominate a game like Tim Duncan or Andre Kirelenko who was a MONSTER last night. 2Quick From: Los Angeles Registered: Feb 2004 Posts: 567 11/4/2004 Even Dirk Nowitski is admitting on camera that he needs to play tougher and he is looking tougher out there. DL4REAL edited message on November 04, 2004 6:32 PM 2Quick From: Los Angeles Registered: Feb 2004 Posts: 567 11/4/2004 That's it DL. Teams now have us figured out. THEY KNOW PAU GASOL IS SOFT. They know that we can be pushed around and outmuscled in the paint. Guards & small forwards know that we are weak on the pick on roll because our big men (except Bo Outlaw) can not defended the pick & roll. Bo Outlaw is an AWESOME pick & roll defender. Also, guards & forwards know that you if you get into the lane on us, NO PROBLEM! Did you see their guards finishing over Pau? Ridiculous. WE ARE SOFT! Stromile is athletic and gets blocks, but he is still soft too. LASTLY, DL is right. Teams now know our weakness, and they are going to exploit it. Jerry West is going to be forced to make a trade to stop the leak. Both Hubie & Jerry have always known it is a problem with our team. You must solve problems. They don't go away on their own. Dampier is kicking ass in Dallas by the way. Dallas LOOKS AWESOME! DL4REAL From: Beale Street Registered: Oct 2003 Posts: 643 11/4/2004 I'm not sure when a trade could be made, but hoopsworld.com report another on & off again "talk of curry". Its still early though.........Hubie got 2 days of practice to teach these guys how to get in position & box out....and most important...how to grab a rebound for once. You gotta let ya BALLS hang loose, and play hard nose basketball. Do what you gotta do to win. PAU is the leader!!! He needs to LEAD day in-day-out. No question about it! Play like its the last possession..........of the game. I can think of 86 more reason he played soft. But again, He needs do everything for 86 Million (including) mopping the floor during half-time if necessary. Me and Bonzi make one Bad Azz Team!!! Pguard From: Reus, Catalunya, EspaƱa. Registered: Apr 2004 Posts: 216 11/5/2004 Well Pau has been soft his whole career, you can't expect him to get tough just coz you paid him big money. Anyways the grizz as a team are not soft, they are pretty tough, just look at forced turnovers and steals. We were crushing the Wizards till the 3rd quarter, but scoring 11 points in that quarter is not something to shame on toughness... Do you know why Bonzi starts now? As much as I love him, I think he is better suited for the second unit. It's just that Hubie Brown gets us to play tougher. This team will make a big trade to bring in some tough interior guys. Pau is an incomplete player and needs someone to compliment him inside. We all know it, and it must be done for us to improve. I like Pau's offense, but he is soft. I do think he can try and toughen up.
Nice find, here is another post in a different thread: grizzdoc From: Memphis, TN Registered: Jan 2004 Posts: 149 11/9/2004 They are lacking in poise, this is exactly what plagued them 2 years ago... they are unable to close the deal. That and the fact that Pau is playing like a girl. That's 86 million down the drain. He wants to be the man? How about taking more than 7 shots? How about reaching for a defensive rebound instead of giving up an easy put back, followed by a silly turnover at a crucial point in the 4th quarter? His contract has guaranteed that he gets the calls, but he never takes advantage of that by consistently going to the basket. I have never attacked Pau in this forum, I have always been a huge fan of his, but he is supposed to be a leader, and he is showing that he is not fit for the responsiblity. There ought to be a performance clause where contracts can be revoked; it happens in the real world, why not in professional sports
Oh man...while we are hammering Yao on this board, the Memphis fans are dissing Pau on their board. At least in this pic our franchise is the aggressor and their franchise is on retreat.

It's really driving me nuts because I want to love him.! posted Tue November 09 2004 11:10 PM He's playing like a big P*SSY. I told ya so, but this team is going nowhere fast with Pau. I don't know how many times I said in the offseason to trade Pau for a REAL bigman, who will get his hands dirty and play some defense and rebound the ball, but now it looks like we are stuck with the guy. "Okafor, I would do what it takes to get this guy, even if it means trading Pau straight up for him... his back has checked out fine, he's going to be a defensive beast in the NBA, and a much better offensive player than people think. He should easily be able to average 15+ his rookie season, and when you consider that Pau averages under 18, that's less than a 3 PPG difference... factor in that he's only a rookie and 10X the defensive player and rebounder that Pau is, and it's a no brainer. He really tested out well in Chicago too... legit 6'10 with shoes on, 7'4 wingspan, and 9'2 standing reach... strong and explosive as well... tied with Kris Humpries as the strongest man in the draft, benching the 185 lb bar 22 times, so not some big softie... and also had a 35' vertical... that's an inch higher than Amare Stoudamire had when he came out. Mark my words, if we don't trade for this guy while his value isn't all that high, we'll really regret it a year or two from now." Our 50 win season might've been the worst thing that could've happened to us...it allowed West to become complacent, and content more or less with the makings of our team. Had we struggled again, he might've opened his eyes to the fact that Pau is not the player he thinks (or thought) he was, and moved him for a more traditional banging/bruisng power forward. I maintain that our success last season was directly related more to James Posey than any other factor. He was our most clutch player, our 2nd best offensive player, our best hustle/energy player, and our best defensive player. Jason, Pau, Shane, etc... all had similar seasons last year as they had in the past... yet their previous 2 seasons they won 23 and 28 games respectively... one major new face arrived, and they won 50... I don't think that was a coincidence, and probaly had more to do with our success than the coaching of Hubie Brown. As long as Posey is injured and not back in last seasons form, this team will continue to struggle... we'll still suck on the glass and inside on defense, but Posey's energy, offense, and defense will help compensate for those glaring flaws. What aggravates me the most about Gasol is that he is probably the worst player in the league about whining to the refs. In his mind, he has never traveled, fouled, done or said anything that was worthy of a technical. Also, he has never gone to the basket without getting fouled...heavily. You see this incessant whining and wonder how is that this crybaby still gets the calls? Francis and Mobley were plagued with getting no calls in the lane, and I was always of the opinion that it is because the refs didn't respect them since they never shut their mouth up and pouted when calls didn't go their way. Gasol gets treated with kids gloves by the refs and he still complains...that drives me crazy.

You are absolutely right. I actually like the guys talent, but the whinning & complainning is really getting to me when watching this guy playing.
I like Pau too...he complains a lot, but I think his facial expressions being different just makes it more noticeable. The more pertinent problem is that everyone in this stupid league complains too much (with a few exceptions). I loved seeing Battier just say "good call ___" (forgot the refs name he said) to the ref. All these guys think they never do anything wrong. Just shut up and eat your words. Remember Elie doing the same thing? We probably never complained about him (well, maybe after he went to SA)...Cassell too once he got established in the league.
yeah one would think the refs would be mindful of this and give yao the benefit of his share of calls since he plays so fair and is so respectful toward them. But it seems that the exact opposite is happening. Its as if he is singled out because he doesn't act like a disrespectful brat. The more one b****es and whines, like Kobe or Paul, the more he will get the whistle in his favor. thats just freaking weak, aint it...
