Basically taking smarter shots and using the entire court. We usually take pretty disciplined 3 point shoots. However, Durant is a true mid range assassin and Sengun is really figuring out his range.
I think KD puts Jabari in such an improved position too he has time to shoot and doesn’t have the scoring onus on him. I bet he has career high fg and 3pt percentages this year.
Sengun just bombing away on LONG 3s is the surprise of the season. I assumed if he became competent from 3, it would be on corners first. This is so much better because it forces the opponents up to the top of the key and gives him a much wider lane than he would get from the corner. And it leaves the corners open for other shooters. It also shows why the new lineup works so well: Okogie and Jabari can camp out in the corners and Durant on the other side of the key, with Amen in the dunker’s spot — all extremely credible threats in those spots. If Sengun keeps up 36%+ from up top and the others (or DFS) maintain 40%+ from their respective spots in corner or top (for Durant), this team will be impossible to stop.
I'm glad the Rockets decided to add corner 3s as a more of a consistent look on offense. It had kind of been abandoned by Ime because if you shoot corner 3s and miss a lot, you're sort of toast on D at the other end. But if you make these somewhat easy shots you extend your lead. We shot 37% from the corner last year but only 20% of our shots. This year we're off to our hot start at 50% on corner 3s and it's 31.6% of our shots.
Except for Durant and Sheppard, everyone else is an outlier, Amen included. That said, the Rockets are getting wide-open 3s. Might have something to do with Durant, Sengun, and that quad-to-trio of bigs.
