Got around to watching Weapons.... B- for me. Maybe I was too high to see a higher meaning in the movie but I was a bit surprised Spoiler Witch Lady with supernatural powers is orchestrating all of this to live longer? Some YT videos suggest it's about parasites and that Gladys was a parasite. IDK.... At any rate... definitely a very interesting, well made movie that keeps you wondering what's going on. Maybe I need to watch Barbarians as well.
A house full of dynamite on Netflix. Don’t bother. The first third is great. Then they drop the ball. The ending legitimately pissed me off. Two hours down the drain.
I felt similar All the parts were ok but after a while i was getting annoyed When the end came I was just too bothered I would guess they would do a part 2 but i doubt it They should . . .. cause we only got like 1/2 a story Rocket River
As pretty much an Action movie enthusiast or expert at this point, I can't understand how I slept on and missed this movie. Atomic Blonde, the title and perhaps timing the movie came out, as well as some people reviewing might have been biased due to a female lead and it didn't catch my attention at first. Ho-lee-sh@t, this movie has scenes that are straight up action movie classics. If you walk into it as a sleek spy movie with a few action sequences it might be a better expectation, It's based off of the graphic novel 'The Coldest City' by Antony Johnston. It's somewhat of an 80s period piece of Berlin during the cold war, so you also hear great music of the era. Depeche Mode, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Queen etc. It's an action movie gem and the one shot stairwell fight sequence is arguably a masterpiece. 8/10
Atomic Blonde is the best female-led action movie ever (Aliens don't count), unless I'm somehow not remembering a better one. It's brilliant, she's awesome.
My uncle felt it was really really good, too. I wasn't that fond of it myself. Although action isn't my thing. But I would say, la femme nikita (Luc Besson) was really good and even the spin-offs Black Cat (which is a cat5 film) was really good. In fact, I almost prefer it to the original.
Materialists (director, Celine Song, 2025) 10/10 is one of the best traditional romantic comedies I've seen in years. A24 is knocking it out of the park and for Hollywood Films it is really just them and Neon competing for the top spot. I would place this film along side When Harry Met Sally, that's how much I love the film. And Dakota Johnson plays the role perfectly as Lucy Mason, Matchmaker (and all-around jaded dating coach). I don't think she has a false note in the film. I seriously can't understand how RT has it at 78%. There has to be some bias going on. I think the film is smart and funny and stares modern dating in the eyeballs and doesn't flinch. And the blu ray edition of this from A24 is superb. With all of the terrible ensemble, cliche films about love: Valentine's Day, for example, to find one that is trying to take the genre seriously and actually succeeding is a rare feet. This is a good one. It's 10/10 for me. A lot of the reviewers fall back on the idea that it is cliche: well, hell, that's what love is. It's cliche. I wonder if the same people would have said the same about The Wolf of Wall Street. Honestly Martin Sorceress puts every cliche in the book in that film, as he does with all of his films. But the difference is is that Sorceress is TASTEFUL and he knows his subjects well. And I feel the same with Celine Song here. Does she use cliches? Of course. But she knows of what she talks about.
I don't remember this one. I do remember her killing it in the action department in The Old Guard, which I recommend.
I recall it being marketed as a female john wick at the time. I remember it being super solid, but it's been years since I watched, and for the life of me can't really recall many details
5/10 Noel and Liam Gallagher reunited and it’s time for Ethan and Joel Coen to do the same. Their solo movies aren’t half as good as the films they make together and Ethan’s stuff suffers the most. Margaret Qualley is okay in this, so is Aubrey Plaza. I don’t blame the actors.
It's sad how much their solo movies are just "meh", after their run as a team. I thought this one looked very interesting and I made it though about 30 mins before I got bored
Maybe because the stunt coordinators turned directors who did Matrix's, John Wick's , Deadpool's, Bourne's, Nobody, The Fall Guy (massively underrated movie, imho), etc...directed it. David Leitch and Chad Strahelski, iirc There's allegedly a remake of Highlander in the works, which could be awesome.
Finally saw the new Naked Gun movie. Full disclosure: I think Leslie Nielsen is the greatest comedic actor of our generation. But I approached this with an open mind. I was ready to give it a chance and I wanted to like it. That being said, I ended up falling asleep halfway through, which tells me all I need to know, unfortunately.
You sound like you posted my review. lol. I'm in the same camp. I didn't fall asleep but I could barely muster a laugh throughout. Leslie Nielsen was just untouchable in this type of film. Liam can be funny but the script failed him and everyone else for the most part imo.
