when are the refs going to be held accountable for controlling the outcome of a game. shaq......damn his abuse of players makes me sick...and why dont they make refs be former basketball players at some level before they are allowed to call a game they cant play. and if you flop (miller, stockten, divac, and ai did some) then you should be ejected......bah i cant stand refs

It is clear that they are going to allow Shaq to clear people out with his elbows and shoulders. That pretty much kills any possibility of anyone guarding him adequately. And, there's the constant three second violations which are seldom called.
The only reason they called them tonight was because of the Lakers' 4th quarter lead.

I think the Lakers would probably have won the series even if the games were called properly, but we will never know.

The treatment that Iverson got was terrible, too. Tonight, he got hammered once on a break away basket, went down hard after making the basket, but no call. He just lay there on the floor while the Lakers took off on their possession.

Philly had their chances, though. Missed free throws, McKie shooting terribly, and Hill not showing up until tonight.

But back to the refs, I have no confidence in NBA refs these days. When you watch the sweet sixteen, you see an occasional badly called game, but nothing like the crap in the NBA.

My fantasy is a remake of the Godfather, but with Michael Corleone at the end, replacing the names Barzini, etc. with...

"Bavetta, dead. Nies, dead. Javie, dead...."

    You get the idea.

Yeah, i hated the way that the refs caused eric snow and george lynch to miss their dunks, and i hated the way they magically made the lakers nail 12 out of 17 three pointers, damn them.

Officiating has become terrible at every level of basketball. Anyone remember the Final Four? Duke was the LA of college basketball.

They could at least call the elbows to the face that Shaq gives every opposing center.

and they could also call fouls everytime allen iverson uses his forearm to push the defender back and create space to take a shot.

Do you realize how many players in the league do that? If they called that on every player in the league every time they did it, there would be offensive fouls almost every possession. Shaq is the only guy I've seen lately that nearly snaps players necks when he goes up, so I think it needs to be called.

Wow, see I thought pretty much every game was slanted so incredibly in the 76ers favor it was ridiculous (last night being the exception as it seemed fairly close to being evenly called).

For every Shaq elbow that wasn't called, Iverson was shoving a guy away from him.

On only a slightly different note, did anyone else think it was hysterical that Iverson got a T on that early foul? I mean, hello? He practically slapped Shaq's bicep off and then was incredulous it was called a foul.

About Shaq- I know he is a great player, and one of the greatest centers of all time, and whatever else people praise him for...but I don't care how big you are, when you back down in the paint and the defenders neck gets slung back while you go up for a dunk, such as the replay they showed on Mutumbo, it is an offensive foul.

I know the Lakers probably would have won anyway, but you've got to call some of those fouls to give Philly a chance. Every time they tried to get back into the game, the refs seemed to take them back out of it, along with Derek Fisher.

BTW...I demand Rick Fox be traded to Utah immediately, such flopping as last night is not allowed anywhere but Salt Lake City.

Not many players use their forearm as bad as Iverson does. and dont you think that sometimes when shaq "snaps" the players necks back that they are acting?

Acting? I'll elbow you in the face and lets see you act. "Elbow" to your "Face", think about it, especially coming from a 7 ft, 300 pound guy.

What do you mean? Jordan and your boy Kobe "sometimes I dream he is me" Jor--er---Bryant are the masters of the forearm pushoff!!! So I guess if they call it on AI, the will have to call it on your boy too, right?!

Same thing can be said in comparison of Shaq and Mutombo. Is there ever a play where Mutombo touches the ball or gets near the ball that he doesn't elbow someone? Doesn't he camp in the lane, far away from anyone on defense?

Philly lost because they have one guy who can score. Their fault, not the refs.

    TRUE
I think everyone here conceeds that philly
would have probably lost anyway but . . .because
I team will probably loose anyway . . . does
that mean you should not call it str8?

Shaq *does* camp in the lane
Shaq DID HOOK Mutombo multiple times
AI does push off as much as Kobie

I hate when people move around an argument
or try to divert from it. . .

The argument is The Refs Sucked
not that they stole the game
nor that that were paied. . .THEY SUCKED!
THEY WERE ONE SIDED to an extent

    Rocket River
    I hate superstar calls
philly has one . . .Lakers had two
So math says LA got more Superstar calls
    :)

i hate when people blame referees for losing. the refs did suck, but for both ways. there were times when they called dumb fouls for the lakers and times when they called dumb fouls for the sixers. the refs did not decide the outcome of the series.
