Ok, Im going to go out on a limb here and say that there is way more than 2% that abuse the system.

Having to go into the homes of poorer neighborhoods, I know at least demographically here, its much more than 2%. Anyone take a drive through your local projects lately? Anyone notice the Caddys, Lexus, and BMW's? Dont give me its all drug dealers. Ive seen homes in the projects that look like a Rent-a-Center billboard.

Im not saying that there is no place for welfare. My mom was on it for a while, and so was I for a 2 month tough stretch in my life. Im saying that if you believe only 2% is abusing it, you havent seen the number of food stamp rip offs, cash assistant rip offs, or section 8 rip offs I have.

Dreamshake - are you saying that more people in the projects buy BMW's with food stamps than they do with drug money? Can you use that Lone Star Card at Park Place Motors?

Kagy, don't get me wrong. Like I've stated before, I can deal with people disagreeing with me.

Most of the time, I love to read your posts because they are well thought out, once you read between the B.S.

My reaction was no more of a knee jerk reaction than your reaction was. Your making assumptions about a picture and a small article.

Don't take any offense Kagy, I love you man!

Kagy and everyone else, did y'all read the article. I just reread it, it's not even her house! It's her parents' house. It's her parents' TV.

Kagy, you slacked on this one, as I did too.

    She's only paying $100 a month in rent, that's a nice price.

This is why I should just keep my mouth shut. As you can probably guess, this was pointed out to me by a friend. So he slacked too.

Oh well. I'm going to shut up for a while now.

Funny, this is a perfect example of welfare working:

"I've realized potential in myself that I never knew I had," says Cathy Mitchell, who is trying to mprove the transition from welfare to work with a computer training class."

"Because of these computer classes, "I can see myself getting a career, not just a job," Mitchell says.

"When you have children, you don't just want to survive day to day," Mitchell says. "You want to have a career."

"While trying to get off of welfare, Mitchell took jobs as a nanny, a maid and a carpet cleaner. But it wasn't until she enrolled in the computer classes that she began to see a way out of poverty."

This is EXACTLY how welfare benefits people. You can argue all you want about the implementation and abuse, but the fundamental concept is important. Most welfare recipients WANT to work, they WANT a chance at more. They just need help getting there.

This woman, assuming she's around 40, will hopefully participate in the workforce for 15-20 years. If she stays decently motivated (a big IF), she will return at close to as much in tax revenues as the cost of providing her benefits for the last 6 years. If you can help welfare recipients sooner, (2-3 yrs) and younger (20's or 30's), proactive welfare (rather than simple handouts) is actually profitable for the government, both by reducing expenses (getting people off welfare) and increasing tax revenues.

It's basically trickle-up economics, which has as much merit as trickle-down economics (which is quite a bit, in both instances).

Actually she looks like she's about 240, give or take a couple Double-Cheese Whoppers.

OK, I shouldn't have said that either.

Doxy, Welfare success should be gauged by how many people are NOT using it, not by how many entitlements that are available.

Rant and Rave about "Corporate" welfare but the city gets just as much benefits from the stadiums as the owners of the sports teams do.

If a Super Bowl comes here, it is worth 200-300 mill to Houston Tax revenue. If the Olympics come here(which they won't if we do not have a new basketball arena)then the city will get close 1 billion dollars in additional tax revenue. Not to mention about the NCAA tounry, College football bowl games, Concerts, and regional sports events other than the pros. All will benefit the city and not Drayton or Les. [IMG]

Hetero Doxy, you obviously haven't been here long, BK is very much opposed to taxpayer funded arenas/stadiums.

Before you make a jackass out of yourself, do a little search on posts by Kagy and read his opinions on this subject.

Hetero, can I just ask you a quick question? What do you hope to accomplish by antagonizing me?

And do not say it's just in fun. If that's your answer, then allow me to be the
    first to say "Bye".

PS: Funny you should mention taxpayer-funded stadiums, being that you're an Enron employee.

oh, it's serious, kagy, at least as serious as sports gets (not world peace or anything). you banned me two years ago for having the audacity to say a team with stanley roberts was a disgrace, and would be among the worst teams in baskbetball (you predicted the western conference finals that year). well, einstein, "scoreboard."

So this-- posting on a website's BBS-- is "as serious as sports gets", and you've held a grudge against me for two years for banning you...?

Sounds like some one is in severe need of a life.
