This is correct. Once they had strong interest in Tucker - they attempted to find a good deal for Framber but the offers were tepid. They also listened during the season and the interest wasn't as strong as some would think. Framber is high maintenance and there are concerns around the league about his ability to adapt quickly to a new situation.
Framber has made quite the remarkable career, but he’s very fringe of mentally losing his control. I remember hearing how he initially improved after breaking into the ML after he went to a physiologist. So much of his resolve is staying mental strong. We’ve seen it various times that if stuff goes anomaly wrong, it throws Framber off; and it takes time to get him back into controlled level pitching. This past season, after giving up the HR, he got mad at his catcher and hit his own catcher after crossing him up! I get it that the 3 or 4 run HR he gave up hurt his ERA; but he did more damage to himself, because he never seemed to get his mojo back after that. What type of an unhinged dude would hit his own teammate, instead of talking to him after the game! And that is the reason you don’t go longer than 3 years to Framber. Too much risk by giving him a long contract.
He tanked his value this season. His head case issues have been present again over the last three seasons. Teams are t going to want to pay him 1 or 2 money because they can’t count on him. His best bet is to makeup with his teammates and hope the Astros keep him in a short term deal.
Wasn't it also reported that after that incident with Salazar, 1 team would not longer pursue him in the off season. Who knows if other teams are thinking the same.
That would actually be the Astros best bet… but there will be at least one team who offers him a ton of money and a 4-5 year deal. Hell, the Tigers will probably trade Skubal (if he doesn’t accept their new extension offer) and sign Framber.
This would actually be a smart move by the Tigers if Skubal doesn't want to re-sign. Maybe even signing Framber even if Skubal re-signs would be a smart move.
Framber at something like $140M/6yrs is a relatively low risk contract for a ToR SP. I think he will get something like $170M/7yrs, possibly with an opt out. That cross up incident (along with that stretch where he sucked) probably cost him $20M+.
