I’m a results oriented person and with Ime’s success, it’s hard to argue that he’s anything but a good coach. That said I’ve always been less impressed with his offensive philosophy. Doesn’t feel like there’s any schemes. I think he has to juggle a lot with the way this roster is configured. Having no real ball handling on the team would be a challenge for any coach. His willingness to play zone shows he’s able to go against long held approaches. He’s going to need to tap into some creativity to make our odd configuration of players work. Let’s see how things look in December.
I have always said Ime is a great Coaching prospect and now turned Coach..... It remains to be seen if he can get to the Popovich or Phil Jax level.......he is a genius but also very stubborn for his own good. I am more inclined to say that Mark Daigneault is a super find by the Thunder, coming out of the GLeague. Definitely creative version of Ime Udoka.
While I do have some reservations regarding Ime's schemes on offense.. maybe we should also consider that it's probably not a good idea to show the NBA a lot of your offensive sets in game 1 of the season. To have such a limited offensive scheme and still probably should have come away with the win against OKC on the road is my takeaway for the game. Give the team a bit more time to gel and I'm still banking on a huge season for the team.
I'm not worried because Mark Daigneault is actually an amazing coach. Almost everything he does is on point and why that Thunder team is so good. He's underrated because he hasn't coached long in the league but 10 years from now he may be one of the greatest coaches provided the Thunder keep being good.
It’s always these games against smart teams that expose Ime’s lack of creativity on offense. It makes me believe he is our Mark Jackson, and we need to find our Steve Kerr to unlock our full potential offensively. But he’s so well liked and respected, I’d rather just get him an elite offensive coordinator.
I am in the get him help camp instead of replacing him. There has to be an offensive minded coach who is capable of making a difference while Ime is fully in charge of the team. Ime seems like it would take a very special person to be in that role; it’s time to find out. Ime seems out of his depth. Thanks for everything Ime but change or move on. If Ime were to add to his coaching staff he would be a legitimate legend. Knowing one’s own weaknesses and finding ways to improve them, next level. I am sure he has connections he would be confident in.
Maybe it's called using the players skill level to iniate offense through passing, shooting, driving,or being a decoy... Idk ... it may work sometimes
Let’s get the inbound down first before we move on to offensive creativity. How many times do we have to watch everyone standing around wondering who’s suppose to inbound the damn ball. That was some Mickey Mouse sh** right there.
This. I could not for the life of me understand why when ALP was being guarded by guards, elite defensive guards, he was forced to initiate the offense from beyond the 3pt line. Where were the sets to get ALP touches closer to the basket? Did not see one the entire game. On another note, KD had 2 shots in the 4th and both OTs combined. This was mainly due to Dort being all over him, but it was also because there was little in the way of running plays for KD to get him some separation from Dort. Your closer should never get 2 shots in the last 22 minutes of play. Unreal. You can tell by how Reed and Amen at times look clueless as to what they should do that there is not a whole hell of a lot going on in terms of running plays, especially play calls that adjust to how OKC was defending. This is not an overreaction. We saw this all last year, and was only slightly blunted by spamming Fred/ALP PnRs. People said be patient about the offense last year, and will say the same thing all season long this year. Stone deserves some blame for the FA signings not addressing the lack of creation and ball-handling.
Nah, he was counting on having FVV, the injury sucked, but the timing of it made it worse, all our FA money was used up. DD
DD, FVV would have greatly helped with ball-handling and security, but not so much creation. Another guard still should have been signed to ensure redundancy and bolster a roster which severely lacks creation. Why do you think the Rockets signed Capela? For this very reason. It shows me that the Rockets FO does not value this role as much as they should, and believed when FVV was not on the floor, his role could be made up in the aggregate or by Reed. Both options are not a bet I would take at this juncture.
Should've signed Chris Paul. Also...dont ever say or use the excuse of a gm/team is relying on one player to be healthy to hold down one position. I can understand if that player is a superstar (even then there should be backups), but for someone like FVV... really? Sounds like incompetence to me.
This offense has plenty of creators now. Amen had 15 potential assists in the first game. Sengun had 13 potential assists in the first game. Durant got it going in his isolation possessions. Even Jabari was more creative than he has been. Our problem was playing one of the best defensive teams in basketball which is allowed to grab, hold, and bludgeon everybody they play (we do a lot of this as well) and the fact that we haven’t developed a lot of chemistry with 3 new starters. Other mitigating factors are Tari having a bad game and Sheppard not being a capable backup guard at this point. Steven Adams also seems to be immune from criticism on this board. He plays crap defense and literally has two skills, offensive rebounding and setting picks which is great for a backup center, but is inadequate for a starter. Other than Sengun our 3 pt shooting was horrible (Amen included). This team is going to be great if Ime gets his act together and we obtain or develop a decent starting SG or preferably a combo guard. Poor shooting can also be attributed to a lack of spacing which is going to continue to be an issue with Adams and Sengun on the floor together. FVV was one of the worst Pg’s in the league last year, but is 500% better than Sheppard and we still took the champs to double overtime on their home court.

I would like to include Amen in this lack of spacing statement.[/QUOTE] I would agree if he wasn’t getting to the lane at will. I also think his 3 pt shooting last game was nerves. It will improve. Even if it doesn’t the spacing will be fine if we add a SG than can shoot. That will give us Amen and 4 shooters, which is just fine, ala Magic Johnson, Jason Kidd, CP3 for most of his career, etc.

Expecting +30% from him. Irrelevant to the discussion, not yet bought into Alpi 3P shot being legit yet. Gotta see some more. Off ball Amen is still spacing problem though.
He got a team to the Finals. Once he realizes to go SenHub and Reed figures out how to not be a turnstile, Ime will look like a fine offensive coordinator.
starters are supposed to be designed to get the teams offensive flow going get the offense going at its best first then worry about defense going at its best and offensive rebounds later in the game a 3pt shooter/spacer should be starting instead of Adams
