They were awarded a disabled player exception worth around 14M, but because their offseason spending hard caps them if they enter the first apron, they can’t use it.

Derrick White yes, he’s a two way winning player. Not a huge fan of Sexton though. Although he seems to have improved.

Correct me if I'm wrong but there will be a point in the season where the prorated vet min will be small enough for them to sign under the apron. Rather wait for it than waste an asset.

You’re not wrong. That should be closer to the trade deadline.

Grimes would be great someone in another post suggested Payton Prichard and I thought that was ridiculous.

Grimes starting asking price was 30M, but he went all the way down to about 15M and the Sixers said no. Sixers offer was literally 100k over the QO. This was reported by the national media.

The Rockets can apply for an injured player exception and I believe that it would be worth roughly the MLE amount. The problem is we're hard capped and can't exceed the 1st apron for the remainder of the season. We're currently $1.2M below the apron, not even enough to sign a minimum salary player. That means that we're currently unable to use that exception.

The Rockets could theoretically shed a bunch of salary to get cap space and then use that exception but it isn't likely.

Currently we have one open roster spot which we are unable to fill because we are so close to the 1st apron amount even a minimum salary would put us over the apron.

With the NBA letting go Chauncey Billips, I wouldn't be surprised if the Rockets try to go after Jrue Holiday.

Quentin Grimes would be a terrible trade target for Tari Eason. Because Grimes signed the qualifying offer with the Sixers to end his restricted free agency, any team acquiring him will not have his bird rights. Therefore, the Rockets would be incredibly limited in what they could offer him this offseason as a free agent.

Payton Pritchard would be a good acquisition. He provides the Rockets with much of what they are looking for from Reed Sheppard and is signed for the next three seasons for backup point guard money (about seven-to-eight million per season).

You got all that out of one game? I saw a guy who had to take some of the toughest defensive assignments when in the game. I saw a guy who never has been able to create, be put in position where he had to create offense. Definitely not his best game but I’m not ready to give the guy up.

Probably belongs in the random trade thread, but I wonder if Jared McCain would be made available by the Sixers, given that Edgecombe will probably cement that starting backcourt position? Eason would be a great fit for them, too.

Grimes, we need shot making, and Grimes brings that. Tari is redundant now.

Grimes could have been already part of our team, if we didn’t pick Christopher just to make JG happy to reunite with his middle school buddy.

Payton's not a point guard. He's a tiny shooting guard that comes off the bench for the Celtics to give them a scoring punch. Not exactly what we need. Grimes averages way more assists than Prichard in less time. Grimes is taller and better at defense. Im not sure why you guys even are thinking of Prichard he makes no sense on this team. Ime wouldnt play him. It's silly. I think you guys are obsessed with his scoring maybe? Thats not what we want from our point guard right now. We just need someone to help set up the offense keep things steady knock down open jumpers and play defense. Thats not who Prichard is except for the open or closed( He loves heaving shots) jumpers.

Depends on the player. All players don't have the same veteran minimum. It's based on years of experience.

What i believe that you are refering to is waiting until a FA's pro-rated salary will fit into our available $1.2m space. The higher the player's min salary, the longer you'd have to wait.

Here's an example of some minimums:

    0 years experience $1,272,870

    3 years - $2,378,870

    5 years - $2,667,947

    7 years - $3,287,409

    10+ - $3,634, 153

Pritchard isn’t a perfect fit at point guard for the Rockets. However, he is a physically mature, developed version of Reed Sheppard.

He has the lower-body strength to deal with contact and physical play, stretches the floor (career 40% three-point shooter on five attempts per game), and he did play point guard in college at Oregon. His career path mirrors that of Fred VanVleet, except he’s not as good as VanVleet defensively. He’s been a bench gunner on a deep Celtics’ team like VanVleet was in Toronto, and this season he will get his chance to show his point guard skills with all the Celtics’ injuries. The Rockets would love it if Sheppard could provide them with anything close to what Pritchard did last year in Boston, so he is a cost-controlled fit for the team.

As for Grimes, regardless of how good he is, he is not a viable trade option for Tari Eason. Because he accepted the qualifying offer from the 76ers ending his restricted free agency, no team acquiring him will have his bird rights. This severely limits what the Rockets could pay him heading into his unrestricted free agency next summer. The Rockets are not trading a comparable asset they control (Tari Eason) for one they could easily be out bid on next summer unless Philadelphia is willing to add valuable pick sweeteners.

    Tari/Reed for Scoot/Kris Murray/draft picks
This trade will give us a good ballhandler who is still in his youth and a stretch 4 who can hit shoot 3s

You guys retread the same BS. OK OK his birds rights, you dont even know what else would be in the trade this is all hyothetical. Anyway, I dont care that wasnt the question. Im not the GM the question was Grimes vs Pritchard. If you dont like the trade because of bird rights gripe at the op lol Im saying if our choices are Pritchard and Grimes. Grimes makes more sense on this team. He's actually what we need. I dont want a more mature Reed Sheppard unless its Reed Sheppard. im not even sure why you put that lol How do you know thats what Reed will be when he matures? Finally just because Grimes wouldnt be the best fit financially does not mean you get Pritchard for the hell of it. He doesnt even pass wtf is the point of getting him. WE NEED A POINT GUARD. He averages like 2 assists lol
