Who was going to offer it to him next off-season? It's something like $63 million

I don't think anyone could or would.

If he plays at the same level as last year he could get it. Some organizations are just stupid. Dallas, for one, might do it to form the ‘old man super team’ that never works.

I'm pretty sure there was at least one team willing to trade for Durant when he was a Sun if he was willing to extend at the max with them (always bet on desperate teams acting desperately). I don't know of a cap space team next year that would be willing to sign Durant to the max.

Durant picked the Rockets and agreed to sign for less than he could have if he was open to more places when the Suns were looking to deal him.

After Durant said no to a Warriors trade at the deadline, they got Butler and gave him a 2 year, $113m extension. There's no doubt GSW would have given Durant a max extension if they gave a guy who's half as good a max two year deal.

Just because there are no cap space teams out there doesn't mean players aren't getting money. There are other (legit) ways that guys can get paid. Not Kawhi ways.

Who? It would be advantageous for Durant's agent to leak that if it were true. I know the Timberwolves tried to acquire him but that entails the suns taking back Gobert.

I know it's crazy but nobody hands out $63 million dollars for 38 year old players with reconstructed knees.

When did Durant have his knees reconstructed? I thought his major career altering injury was the torn Achilles in 2019, but he's recovered from that better than anyone expected.

I'm sure GS would have done it. They tried trading for Durant this offseason, but he turned them down. Curry is currently 37 and will get paid $63M in his age 39 season. They are in extreme win now mode and have paid $750M in luxury taxes during the Curry era. Hell, they paid $177M in luxury taxes a year ago. That's three times KD's max.

Yeah they paid it for their homegrown franchise defining icon at the end of an epic run. Literally a 1 of 1 in Currys case.

People are saying they're surprised Durant did not get his theoretical $130 million or whatever 2 year max. I am not surprised! At all!

Nobody has that much $$$ available and he's 38 next year.

Teams literally have to move heaven and Earth to clear up that kind of space. It is like 40% of the cap. They'd have to trade current Max players and/or somehow not take back salary for Durant.

Nobody is doing that for a 38 year old Durant.
