Grimes got a 1 yr deal to become a FA next season. If they dont reach an agreement same thing will happen except Tari becomes a RFA.

Too bad we're not going to know how far apart they were. Sounds like they weren't even close, possibly a disagreement on both the annual salary and number of years. I hope we get to keep Tari though. I'm not excited about the RFA process and god forbid he signs the qualifying offer.

Disappointed. Huge risk for him turning down guaranteed cash given injury history.

What recent moves have lowered your faith? They have been hitting it out the park last couple of seasons. Your faith should be rising with KD trade, all the young guys playing great, Reed shedding the bust label, great contracts, KD discount, pickups of Okogie and JD Davison etc

If Rox fail its just because OKC Presti is too good, Rox is great in their own right.

A professional basketball player wanting to start makes him entitled? That’s an insane take.

Also, just because an extension wasn’t reached today does not mean Eason will not stay in Houston past this season. What today signals is that Rockets’ management is telling Tari if he wants what he feels he is worth, he needs to put together a healthy season first.

We don't know what was said, the fault can be on the org as much as the player.

But with a quality player who I understand the health issues, he still impacts games and winning. You can work out a contract with like Zion's if needed with conditions.

    We'll see what happens.

So Tari is about to jump into free agency when we gonna have record breaking free agent young players? If I was a Rockets front office I would use the same money to get Walker Kessler for the future

It does look good right now. My judgement is long term, how we fare these next couple years and the opportunity costs were making for the gamble.

It looks good now, but it all depends years from now how this looks.

Again I hope we win a championship, but it's okay for people to have different opinions. There is clearly fan propaganda now for the org here to influence opinon. We'll see what happens

Long term we have PHX picks and swaps, Amen, Reed, Tari, Jabari and Sengun are in their early 20s. Not sure what opportunity cost you are talking about, all we lost is literally Jalen Green. This isnt propaganda these are facts, even the GM survey had Rox having the 2nd best team moves in the offseason.

Anyway you do you. Truly you cant please everyone. No matter how great a job you have done somebody will think you suck.

It’s because many on this board think every Rocket should be loyal and take below market contracts to help build a better roster. Except if they were in the job market tomorrow, they wouldn’t accept a low-ball offer unless they had to get paid or risk being immediately homeless instead.

It would suck if we dont sign him, he ends up better than Bari...still the injury could be a sign Rockets were not agressive enough

Some people just follow what the majority of others, media, fan propaganda, spin etc. tell them and don't question it.

I agree and not getting the deal done, even with conditional performance agreements, would be a bad move imo.

For sure but the offer he got from Philly was like 4 years with a yearly salary barely over his QO. The reason it was like that was because the money limited around the league. Tari could find him self in that same position if the offer he gets next year from us Is worse than what he got this offered this year.

Stone probably should've tried to sign Tari's extension before Jabari. Their was no way Tari was going to take substantially less than Jabari after he signed his extension. Remember it wasn't long ago that Tari was considered the better overall player than Jabari. The raw and advanced numbers supported that. It was just the injuries that hampered him. The Ringer and other publications had Tari in their top 100 players and Jabari wasn't. This was during his and Amen's terror twins reign last season before he went down with injury. Tari was consistent when he actually played and Jabari was anything but. Jabari looks like he might take the leap but he still hasn't done it yet.

Well we dont even know the details of their disagreement. I would wait to get that info first before we start speculation. It could be Rox were offering him total low ball garbage or unguaranteed team options.

(whispers) Tari has limited skills and judgment, in addition to the physical risks and availability questions. The next best thing to securing him at the right price is not securing him at the wrong price.

Mostly bad teams expected to have “significant cap space”.

    https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/45946735/nba-free-agency-2026-preview-lebron-trae-names-storylines-watch

Starting next offseason, ESPN is projecting at least 10 teams -- Brooklyn, Charlotte, Chicago, Detroit, LA Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Portland, Utah and Washington -- to have significant cap space.

The top players who could become free agents next summer include (P: Player option; T: Team option; R: Restricted):

    Franchise player: LeBron James

    All-NBA: Kevin Durant

    All-Star: James Harden (P), Trae Young (P)

Top starter: Bradley Beal (P), Christian Braun (R), Toumani Camara (R), Dyson Daniels (R), Lu Dort (T), Draymond Green (P), Walker Kessler (R), Zach LaVine (P), Keegan Murray (R), Norman Powell, Austin Reaves (P) and Coby White

Starter level: Deandre Ayton (P), Harrison Barnes, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (P), John Collins, Mike Conley, Jalen Duren (R), Tari Eason (R), Rui Hachimura, Tobias Harris, Isaiah Hartenstein (T), Jaden Ivey (R), CJ McCollum, Khris Middleton, Jusuf Nurkic, Kristaps Porzingis, Collin Sexton, Shaedon Sharpe (R), Anfernee Simons, Fred VanVleet (P), Nikola Vucevic, P.J. Washington, Andrew Wiggins (P) and Mark Williams (R).

The 2026 free agent class could get a boost if current restricted free agents Jonathan Kuminga, Cam Thomas, Quentin Grimes and Josh Giddey sign the one-year qualifying offer before Oct. 1. They would be unrestricted in 2026 if they take the one-year contract.

That list really does make me uneasy. If I was a struggling franchise, maybe one treading water as a perennial 8-9 seed even, and there was a young roster absolutely stacked with talent and one of those kids was looking for a bigger role...I'm just saying, I've heard this story before, it was really fun on our end of it.

This is the number one reason you trade him. His mom is outta control and a distraction. He is big time injury prone. Take what you can get before he is only worth a bag of chips. Reminds me of Matt McClain on the Reds. They offered him 20 million a year before the season and he’ll be lucky to get 5 million a year now after sucking this year with injuries.
