Blazers just extended Toumani Camara to 4 years 82M and this is a guy who made NBA All-defensive 2nd team last year while shooting 37%.

Meanwhile Tari who didn't even play more games in the last 2 seasons combined vs Toumani last year, is demanding a 20M+/year contract?

Tari should be signed for 15M/year.. anything around 20M will be an overpay with his injury history. We should still be under the 1st apron if he takes the 15M/year.

Tari will be paid for future games. Also, Camara's deal includes replacing a $2.4M year with a $21M year. Essentially, he's getting $80M for 3 extra years.

Ticking down to the final seconds. Who's Tari's agent?

I think the main issue that’s gotta be being negotiated is actually a starting spot. I think the guy deserves a shot at a staring role and I’m sure his agent has other GM’s in contact with him ready to deal for Tari and make him a starter with a big role.

This is a big reason why Harden and OKC had issues as well and why it made more sense for both parties at the time to find a good deal for everyone.

I want Tari back and I’m sure he wants to be back but it also makes a ton of sense to field some last minute calls and see if there’s anyone out there willing to give up 3 first round picks, make him a starter, and in the eastern conference.

If the concern is health and potential injury, is it legal to design the contract with incentives for achieving a certain number of games played a season?

Other organizations have to be looking at Tari's health situation too... can he play back to backs... how many games out of 82 will he truly be available to play in? Take care of that before there is talk of having a starting role with any franchise.

Yea I don’t know. I think Tari is objectively better if healthy. So I’d think his number will be something close to that. 4/78 or 4/80 is my guess. Another comparison below

both are going to be undervalued contracts. Also if Tari gets traded, Toumani is one of the (very) few I think we’d get at least similar value back.

Yea, well the main problem with Tari all circles back to his health.

Look at Steph Curry, he got paid peanuts because his health was a huge concern which helped their dynasty down the line.

I know a healthy Tari is an elite role player but when it comes to contracts you have to factor in a player's health in the future as well.

If we pay him big money and then he just ends up playing 35 games a year, we're shooting ourselves in the foot. We have enough guys with injury concerns on this team, we don't need to risk another and end up like the Grizzlies who seem to be injured every year now since their peak playoff run. Actually we don't even need to look at the Grizzlies, Rockets fans out of all people should know what a constantly injured team looks like. The champions every year always seems to be the healthiest team.

I just looked up our cap situation for next year and it seems to me that this Tari extension will quite literally determine if we are going to be under the 1st apron again with flexibility or above the 1st apron next year.

If Tari takes the 15M/year offered by Stone, we can stay under 1st apron again and have a lot of flexibility. If he takes a 20M/year contract then we're going to be above 1st apron with its restrictions which isn't the worst thing in the world as long as you don't reach the 2nd apron. Overall, I'm sure this is the one sole reason that's holding up negotiations. I know it's unfair to ask Tari to take a paycut but I really wish he would just be a team player and do it. Maybe do a 4 year with play option so he can renegotiate for a bigger contract later if he makes an all-defense team.

This will also help us next year when we have to extend Amen. If Amen also takes a small paycut we create further flexibility down the line and can use our treasured picks from Suns/Nets to fill our bench.

Give that man that $20 million a year for 4 years, and trade Fred to free up some money. Because it looks like we won’t need Fred next year. Especially when Amen and Reed take the 1st and 2nd point guard spots.

Looking back at the Sengun extension announcement from last year - The Bobby Marks tweet announcing the extension didn't happen until 4:45 pm. This could be a long day.

Should heavily consider his health into this contract extension

Maybe it can be a backloaded deal where the first year of the extension is $15M to remain under the 1st apron until the FVV contract clears the books in 2027 (seems like a certainty he will exercise his $25M player option) and then the other 3-4 years are between $21-22M.

Rockets got lucky with Sengun, Jabari, Green, and Durant giving huge hometown discounts. Even Vanvleet made concessions when he renegotiated, unfortunately he got injured soon afterwards.

Fellas like Cunningham, Mobley, Barnes, Paolo, etc are getting every penny they can in their contract extensions.

Maybe the kumbaya feelings end with Tari, as he looks to go into the season playing for a max deal somewhere else.

Camara made all defense 2nd team and shot 37% from 3 last yr and played 78 games. He should probably be making more than Tari. After reconsidering, Tari probably get more like $18 mil per and that’s probably fair.
