If Amen is hitting 3s he will be a top 5 player this year. That’s scary. If that happens this is a 60 plus win team if healthy.
Lock up Tari please. i cant remember liking a rockets team this much in forever. So excited for the season. I love the size and talent we have, but I really like the hard nosed mentality all of these guys have as well as what appears to be great locker room chemistry.
This is one of the craziest teams I can remember, you have 5-6 guys on the team that any given night can give you 30. Crazy defensive length and switch ability, no one is a ball stopper *cough Jalen* and you got an all time great as the ultimate bail out option. I think if Reed and Jabari can average around 38% of high volume 3 point shooting, the team is going to be unstoppable
I think 2017-18 was the last time I felt they had a legitimate chance and was super excited. Stupid hammy
I mean that casually leaves off when we had Dwight, Asik, Nene and Clint during the peak run. But yeah for 2020 I get it.
Whilst I appreciate the sentiment, he's more than just a 3 ball away from top 5. Actually look at what top 5 players are putting up. I'd say Alpi's actually currently closer to that level than Amen. We're talking numbers like Jokic, Giannis, Luka, Shai type players. Just for reference last year: Jokic 29.6Pts 57.6FG% 41.73pt% 12.7Reb 10.2Ast 1.8Stl 0.6Blk Shai 32.7Pts 51.9FG% 37.53pt% 5.0Reb 6.4Ast 1.7Stl 1.0Blk Giannis 30.4Pts 60.1FG% 22.23pt% 11.9Reb 6.5Ast 0.9Stl 1.2Blk Luka 28.2Pts 43.8FG% 37.93pt% 8.1Reb 7.5Ast 1.6Stl 0.4Blk The superstars in the league genuinely are incredible players. Whilst I do think our guys could potentially get there one day, if I was going to bet on the one who could achieve it this season it'd definitely be Alpi over Amen. That may change by the end of the season, but right now Amen's got significantly further to go to catch up.
He will not get this type of O-production ever. The question is can he get to peak-Kawhi level? Peak-Kawhi was a top 5 NBA player.
Like I say, i do think he has further to travel to get to that than Alpi does to get to these kind of numbers. I actually don't think it's a huge leap for Alpi, but as you say Amen's got a bit of a ways to go on offense yet. I actually don't think he's that Kawhi-like outside of them both being great defenders and bad shooters coming in, just a completely different playstyle entirely. Still, we can but hope. If either of the 2 young stars gets close to that level we're in good form. I can even see a world where Amen just stays a defensive savant who's a solid player on the other end and Jabari actually gets higher in the pecking order on offense, which I never would've said before this off-season.
