Justin Verlander, George Springer, Alex Bregman, Kyle Tucker, Carlos Correa (whole season), where would the Astros be right now? Hell of the Astros kept Teoscar Hernandez where would they be? I'm not trying to make a political point here, I'm just stating the facts of how much talent this team has. And players that continue to thrive. Hell I know it's a long shot but George Springer has an outside shot of getting into the Hall of Fame.
We would probably still be playing , but it would be us and the dodgers at the top of the payroll ranks and we wouldn't have the ability to do that . But also , 4 out of those 5 guys were position players and even though our offense wasn't great , when healthy it was OK . It was our pitching depth that absolutely needed a shot in the arm and JV alone ain't cutting it .
Though the offense struggled past season, I prefer retaining top pitching. Keeping Gerrit Cole, Charlie F Morton, Verlander to a point, Kikuchi, to me that's just the main advantage. Like the Dodgers starting pitching is winning 2-1 games right now in postseason. Sure they can "build" pitching arms from scratch, and a Paul Skenes shows offense is needed, but elite pitching still reigns
hmmmmmmmm 1. Fire Dana Brown 2. Hire back Jeff Lunhow. Any whining or crying about it from the mlb - tell them to f-off 3. Back to THE evil empire again, **** the Yankees 4. When the Dodgers come to town have a 2017 World Series mini trashcan giveaway with a picture of Clayton Kershaw crying on it. 5. **** the Dodgers
Sig Mejdal was the the brain behind Analytics. Jim Crane really fired Jeff Luhnow, Luhnow sued Jim Crane. Jim Crane Ruined any good faith with Sig Mejdal and Mike Elias. Jeff Luhnow, Sig Mejdal, Mike Elias have been together since Winning Championships with St Louis Cardinals in the Front Office.
Are you saying that Morton didn’t have an injury history? How old was McCullers when he was signed to his deal? 28? Like I said, hindsight 20/20.
I would have chosen Morton to begin with and said so at that time. Why because Charlie F'n Morton helped deliver a championship by coming up big in Game 7 of the WS.
(hope you remember who started that game though... he also came up big both on the mound and at the plate... Ohtani style). It shouldn't have been a "choice".... they should have just kept both. They ended up wasting money on all the other 1-2 year stopgaps that were never as good as CFM. They just didn't want to give him 2 years.
...and LMJ came on in relief of CFM in Game 7 of the ALCS and pitched 4 innings of 1H 1BB shutout ball that same year. Then the Stros won both games he pitched in the WS...so I'd say he helped deliver that same Championship.
