This is one of the plays where i was impressed with Reeds improvement handling in traffic. Didnt result in a stat so it wont be remembered but this was a very good play by him to get a teammate a shootaround look from 3.
Didn't see him all preseason but he looked very comfortable that last game and he played well against Trae.
Reed just needs to be given consistency in his minutes and he'll start to flourish. He's not going to be the #1 option but i believe he will be a very servicable player. I think we'll be able to see his true potential by the end of this yea. It's funny to see those who were writing him off last year when he was getting inconsistent minutes and asking for him to be traded but being massive JG homers. When it was CLEAR that JG was not improving. In the end out of all the pieces we could trade the front office ONLY let JG go. Just goes to show how little they saw in JG.
Ime finally decided the starting lineup for the season: Shepperd Holiday Okogie Crawford Green We're gonna score 133 ppg, top offensive team in the NBA. 82-0 record.
Feels like Reed just needs to be more confident. Maybe he didn't get much of that in college because he was coming off the bench often but he can be a star in this league if he just had the confidence to pull it whenever he's open. I think it's his hesitation last year that screwed with his %s. On defense he just needs to be aggressive because his lack of length and core strength really lets guys get around him easily. I don't think Ime is gonna bench Reed as long as he's active with his hands on defense.
Reed's full stat line in Atlanta: 29-6-6-4-3 and 6 "fun"s in the first 2 answers of his postgame interview Love this kid, but his vocabulary needs work
if Reed Sheppard can do this in the regular season and not just the pre-season, then maybe, just maybe, him being taken at the draft #2 would be validated. Dare to compare him to Chris Paul? Not just yet.
So all he has to do in the regular season is shoot 50/40/80? No problem. You could then maybe, just maybe, set the bar higher if you wanted.
Hi Mr. Dominant -- thank you for correcting me. Ok he was drafted #3. Doesn't mean there's less pressure to perform like Jalen Green who was selected #2 ? Anyway, since he's on the roster, and Fred is out, Ime Udoka should give him a chance to show what he can do against real starting five's in the NBA.
Reed needs to be involved in the offense to be comfortable. Every time he plays with the starters, they have him standing in the corner waiting for a three. That is not his game. He doesn’t get going until he takes a couple drives to the bucket. He needs the ball in his hands more. Those are the times he’s been successful whether summer league, preseason, or when half the team was resting.
There's infinitely less pressure than Jalen Green, let's not pretend they're remotely treated the same as high draft picks. Same goes for Jabari tbh. Amen and Jalen are both held to a significantly higher standard, rightly or wrongly by the fanbase. If Jalen had as underwhelming a first season as Reed (as opposed to putting up several huge scoring, high efficiency games, which Jalen actually did - Reed didn't) he'd have been vilified even more than he has. Jabari gets cut a similar level of slack to Reed, where I think people are harsher on Amen for his shortcomings. I think it's just tied to the expectations for each player, despite Bari and Reed both being picked higher than Amen.
Your favorite draft bust was given every opportunity in the world and was still a failure. Reed Sheppard hasn't gotten that opportunity, so casuals think he's a failure. It's just completely different. As we've seen every time Sheppard has gotten legitimate opportunity, he performs. If the Rockets were still a tanking team, Reed Sheppard would have amazing numbers, because his role would demand it. That's not where the team is currently, so he has the tough task of proving himself without the opportunities given to every other high draft pick. You're going to love watching the Suns win 20 games this season though, your guy is very likely to pad his stats to the detriment of his team....which I'm all for now that it's not the Rockets.
