FVV averaged 14/3/5 with 37.8 FG%...I think Reed can match that. I would like Reed to start, played well at the end of the season when he got a start against the OKC starters. However, I think we double-big on opening night
That's not really true though. There Rockets are planning on playing a lot of non traditional basketball where position labels don't really matter. The double big lineup is likely to have no guards at all. In fact, it's very possible Reed Sheppard and Josh Okogie might be the only actual guards in the regular rotation. They plan to play with either 1 or 0 guards and just fill the court with forwards and centers and use their size advantage to make up for anything they lack elsewhere.
You still just don’t understand what you’re talking about. Would it make you feel better if it was 40” vertical instead of 42”? Experts are not fooled as easily as you
I hope Okogie shoots well enough to be put in front of Holiday in the rotation. Other than shooting 3s, he literally does everything else better than Holiday.
No way Reed averages 14 ppg when he's the #5 option on offense. He needs to be efficient and smart out there because volume just isn't gonna happen. That said, over the long 82, there should be individual games he'll have the chance to erupt.
Whether Reed starts or not I hope Ime plays him with the bench unit a lot. I think he could get up to 14 ppg if hes playing quite a few minutes where he is the 1st or 2nd option.
And if his deep 3 becomes a bonafide threat then teams will need to respect it and this should open up everything else. Let's hope.
Not trying to be negative at all, but Reed averaging 12-13 FGAs just isn't realistic right now. EDIT (thanks to @utgrad97 ): Unless the Rockets have more blowouts than even I expect
I dont think he needs that many field goal attempts to get up to 14 ppg and also KD isnt going to play every game so I think he'll get more shots in those games.
Its just preseason, but...Just as a reference, last preseason the Rockets didnt have a single game scoring over 130pts. Even in an OT game they didnt reach that mark. This preseason theyve only failed to score at least 130 once...and that was the very first game where they scored 122.
I doubt he will come out of the gate starting unless it’s a back to back. Ime values defense and he’s not in the same solar system as Amen. But, his most promising stats lately are his steals and disruptions. That and his shooting improvement is reason to be super excited about our future here. I think he’s a year away from becoming a starter simply because he’s just so young and unproven yet. Hes going to have plenty of opportunity now with FVV out running the second unit instead of Amen.
I hear people jump exactly the same when they are doing a max vertical and when they are doing a two handed dunk.
Why cant he average 14ppg as a starter??? KD is not playing every game nor 40 minutes per night for we'll need him in the playoffs...Reed has the greenlight to shoot the ball! He's about to get some minutes this year...I'm project 14-15ppg
Fun fact, though it comes with the caveat of being preseason: No one has put up 29/6/6/4/3 with 5 made threes in under 30 minutes in NBA history.
This last game kind of shows Reed auditioning for the bench. He played with bench players and killed it. He's not going to get the same self-creation opportunities with the starting lineup. When he plays with Sengun, KD, and Amen he's a muted player. He's fourth on the pecking order in that lineup. We don't have anyone that can light it up off the bench like he can. I can see him being a 25-30+ mpg reserve, while DFS starts in name only.
