I can get the whole "haha take that haters" thought after a good game from a maligned player like Jalen Green or KPJ. But my god Rockets fans have been very optimistic about Reed relative to his production so far in the NBA. Can't we just all be happy he's playing well instead of being happy that some random Rockets fans out may not say certain things on the internet for the next couple of days? I don't think any Rockets fan who cares enough to watch a preseason game featuring half the roster being out, is being genuinely angry that Reed Sheppard played well tonight.
As long as he gets minutes to play he'll be very good...his D will improve I am sure..just needs reps and time
Handle and dribble penetration looked noticeably better today, he was beating guys off the dribble, forcing the help, and hitting the open man. Tonight showed how high of a ceiling he has, still needs to get fully used to speed of NBA game tho.
No..we all know hes great with his hands stripping balls, I was talking more about him being infront of guys and not always letting them pass him by just to try to strip the ball
No one will be satisfied unless he's got Michael Jordan's offense and Gary Payton's defense! Sheesh, people, we are looking for a starter who can simply contribute league-average statistics... to round out a team with Durant, Sengun, and Amen...
Day 1 Reed truther here. Bow down before me. Seriously though, there is 0 chance a hard working high IQ 6’2 guard with great shooting and athleticism doesn’t at least become a career starter. We literally have another one on this roster right now who is shorter slower and fatter.
Okogie has clearly taken over DFS' role. I wasn't very happy about adding DFS since he was injured. Reed played well and intelligently. His handle does need to improve though. If he can tighten it, and keep on improving his passing, his confidence will really rise.
I’m not sure I read that this way at all, only that Ime isn’t ready to commit to a permanent lineup until DFS is healthy.
I'm really happy that Reed had a great preseason game tonight. I'm still fairly concerned that Reed is not ready to be a starter on a championship contender. I base that on an entire season last year where he did not look like a competent NBA rotation player. We'll see though. One great preseason game is a small win. I think Reed has a lot of potential. I hope he reaches it quickly.
He looks like a good fit. He have an endless supply of quality wings. I was surprised when he decided to sign here. I thought he would go to a team with less depth where he would have a more certain spot in the rotation. I think he might have wanted to play for Ime. It's nice to have a coach that the players in the league really respect.
Seems like that limited role is not really hard to fill......those that have heaved Finney Smith to elite rim protector status .........much ado bout nothing.
I think that after last season, many thought of Reed as likely a disaster pick, especially at #3. And rightfully so, as he didn’t impress in any aspect of his game, except for his monster G-League game. Even for me, the only thing that gave room to pause, after his unimpressive reg season, was the resonant positive commentary about how excited the Rockets brass was for Reed Sheppard. Anybody who saw Reed play last season could see he was well behind the eight ball. And I think that is why there is a huge focus on Reed’s level of play, as the last thing anyone wants is for there to be a bust level scenario. As fans nobody can alter the fact if he can or can’t play NBA level basketball. But Reed is giving folks a ray of hope about how much potential he has.
On defense, it's interesting how much quicker Reed is with his hands than his feet. Here's hoping he can improve his positioning, awareness, and lateral quickness. His defense net was and can be positive with those quick hands, especially if he's got multiple shot blockers behind him. At his size, he's really got to focus and anticipate. Good to see it looks like he's put on a little bit of muscle mass. Really liked his PG skills on offense last night. Reed's best game last season was the one he started in OKC. So we got us some must-see TV coming up Tuesday night!
If he continues to hit 38.5% of his threes from 3 feet beyond the arc like he did tonight, keeps good care of the ball like he did tonight, and isn’t a complete sieve on defense like he wasn’t tonight, then I think he’s ready to be a starter on a championship contender. Like he was tonight.
I've been hoping that he would take more deep threes, and I was happy to see it. He doesn't have to worry about the defender, and he shoots them quite well.
It'll be matchup dependant. Sometimes it'll be Steven, Reed, Tari or DFS. Figured we would go this way. Adams cant start 82 games anymore.
The jumper is looking very confident from everywhere. Handle is good enough for his role on the team. Defense needs work. Really hope he gets the start. There’s no better window to test him out for 20 games and in a very easy setting (alongside 3 playmakers and excellent defenders).
