Will the Rockets turn JD's 2 Way to a Standard Contract?

    He is in competition for Holiday’s rotation minutes. That is his ceiling this year. Holiday is a 3rd string guard.

    I see nothing not to like about his game. He doesn't try too hard, it just comes to him. He's not a ball hog either, which is sometimes hard for a guy who is trying to make an impression. Personally, I want the dude on my team from what I've seen so far.

    NBA salaries are prorated on a game by game basis (not week / month).

    His 3 years of service means that his contract would be the standard 3 year veteran minimum ($2,378,870) but would only count against the cap as a 2nd year contract ($2,296,274).

    The Rockets have $1,255,588 under the 1A.

    The $2,296,274 2nd year contract works out to $28,003.34 per game over the course of that 82 game schedule.

    The $1,255,588 / 28,003.34 comes out to 44.8 games of pay meaning they have to wait until the 38th game is played (37.2) before they would have enough space under the 1A to convert him to a standard contract.
