Why is it that Rockets brass always has to try and go out of the way to keep things in the family?? I'm really suprised that we actually looked outside of the city limits for a coach. Seriously, most of these innercircle hirings are really hurting the franchise. Cooper simply sucks. Like Drewdog said, she always looks like she's about to fart. I haven't heard VC(perks of living in Austin), but I can imagine. His interviews are painful enough. He's on par, if not worse than the average Boston announcer. Bullard is decent, because he doesn't look like a dear in the headlights and can actually form complete, intelligible sentences, but he is boring. Show some enthusiasm in your voice for god's sake. Let me hear some excitement, some emotion. Calvin, unfortunately is the best out of this group. When he was focused, he could provide play detail and game insight with the best of them. The problem is we only got that 5% of the time. The other 95% of the time he was flirting with Bill, dissing Bill, talking about his damn cookies and simply acting like a fool. He was entertaining and annoying at the same time. Still, I'd take him in a heartbeat over our other home grown "talent". Just because someone has a history with the Rockets and/or Comets, does not make them a viable candidate for a job where speaking to a large audience often in front of the camera is the primary function.
It doesnt bother me, I turn down my TV now and I listen to the voice of the Rockets, Gene Peterson. ANYthing is better than what we have, Im sorry. has anyone noticed the looks that Bill gives when he is talking to VanChancler? It is flat out funny.
My girlfriend cracked up when at the end of the last game, I uttered, "At this particular point in time, I believe the Rockets have won the game. Thank you Captain obvious!" Cooper is fit for Prime Time compared to VC, I'm sorry. The guy drives me up the wall. His voice is annoying, his dialog is annoying, and he really doesn't add any real insite to what's going on. He comments on the plays that just happened, sort of like an extension of the ref ..... Example.....Mo Taylor travels in the paint and is whistled for it. VC: "I feel that Mo Taylor walked with the ball at that particular time." Tracy shoots a jumper...... VC: "That's what Tracy needs to do at this particular time, make some outside shots." The next play, Yao posts up and makes a bucket.... VC: "At this particular point in time, that's what the Rockets need, get the ball down to Yao." Bill Worrel
I like Van more than I like Cooper! Cooper has trouble reading from the teleprompter. Van can make complete full sentences that atleast make him sound like he knows what he is talking about. Hey Coop...Ever hear about Hooked-on-Phonics?
unfortunatly Murphy was just so good and his chemistry with Worrell was unmatched by any other combo i have heard till this date....and then we stick 2 announcers that just don't have that clicking going on and it really sucks....if he was able to click with Worrell the way Murph did i wouldn't have a problem with his voice as much but the fact that they sound like they are in 2 different worlds really sucks... I can't wait till they clear him of the chrages and he can come back to the booth as long as the rockets bring him back and i hope they realize how much he means to the broadcast booth and the viewers of the game.

That's exactly why I like him...he's a color commentator so he's supposed to liven up the broadcasts and that's what he did...as well as provide insightful game ananlysis. And the chemistry btwn him and Bill has gone unmatched. And I like VC, but his voice becomes too damn annoying after awhile...I can only take him in small doses. So why not slide him over to the halftime report and bring in the Bull for the game....he's such a fan favorite and the best on-air personality of the three it's a shame he's only a "sub."
I agree that Coop sucks. But it seems that Van Chancelor has good comments on what is going on in the games. The man obviously knows what he is talking about, and may be a better coach for the rockets than Van Gundy! So what if he sounds like a Frog.
I can't believe that you did not enjoy is color commentary. I agree with JunkyarDwg. He and Bill were the best commentators to listen to when they broadcasted together. Remember that we suffered some brutal losses in the past years, and Calvin & Bill were the only form of entertainment we had when we were taking those ass beatings.
100% agree, Calvin was the best. His best quote from about 5 years ago was in a game between HOU and BOS and it was a real poorly played first half, and in halftime Murph says "That first half reminded me of my high school, and she was UUUUUGLY!"
