People complain that he's the same character in every movie

He does something different and people complain about that

I've never complained about Jabroni being the same person in every movie. We loved it with Arnold.

I just had no interest in this movie....

I saw a trailer for the Bruce Springsteen movie with Jeremy Allen White and felt the same way.... I like the Rock and Jeremy, but these movies did nothing for me.

This seems primarily like a vehicle to rehabilitate The Rock's image among critics after a string of turds - particularly the Black Adam disaster.

It feels very much like a calculated career move by his "people". He hasn't been the lowest-common-denominator automatic box office draw he was for a decade or longer, now he has to win over the critics.

Look at his imdb credits - he hasn't really had a big leading role star vehicle movie that succeeded for 7 or 8 years. Prior to that he was churning out 2 or 3 schlocky leading man roles year, year after year.

His last 3 big leading man movies were Black Adam, Skyscraper, and Rampage, all of which were disspointments to varrying degrees, particularly domestically.

I think he's hoping much more for critical acclaim than bottom line box office here.

This is all 100% true. But he did do one of my modern-favorite SNL skits, so there's that

getting killed at the box office; thought this was a good project for the Rock to get taken seriously as an actor but a flop by A24
