Venegeance, what kind of problems have they been having with it? the first few Linksys things I got a couple years ago worked fine...but the last couple of been plauged with problems...most noticably their tendencey to lose connectivity from time to time and require reboot. everything works fine for a while...then all the sudden you lose outbound communciation....internal hub stil works...you just cant get access to the internet. was hoping Cisco would fix those problems when they bought Linksys...but the last one I picked up after CIsco still has the same problems.
You've basically described the problem they have had. This problem is with a VERY SPECIFIC model of the DSL router and a specific firmware (the newest one when I bought the router, I think 1.5?). I upgraded the firmware on the router as soon as I got it because it patched some holes. But then the thing would just stop working after about two hours. So I did a LOT OF LOOKING into it and found out that with this specific combo, you need to do a hard reset (different from all the others that are found in the manual) and that fixes the problem. It didn't completely go away, but now the thing probably locks about once a week at the most, as opposed to once every hour or two. I haven't updated the firmware since, but I might soon. I kind of want to leave well-enough alone though . . . I've lately given up on paying a lot for home networking stuff. I've got lots of that cheapo Zonet stuff now, and I'm just as happy with it as with the Linksys. And I just recently discovered that the linksys PCMCIA wireless card I have is basically just a realtek. So why did I pay so damned much for it?
I cancelled my landline once I got boradband internet. It frees up $50 a month. I see wireless B routers for $9-15 every day after rebate, and wireless G for as low as $15-30 after rebates. Check www.passwird.com and www.bensbargains.net for deals.
You have to have wireless card on your computer before you can use wireless routers, my computer is 6 years old and does not have that! Mark
IROC, Did you get the Comcast 26.95/month plan for a year? Or was it a promotional thing where you get it for 3-4 months?
It's a conspiracy of some sort that dial-up isn't faster than 56k; it should run much faster than that after all these years. If dial-up were 100-200 bps and $10 (or less) a month I would choose that over $40 cable anytime.
So let's see who got the fastest then! I guess you have to test your computer against a server near you. Here is a link to find a test near you. State speed and link to the test you took! I got 8333 kByte/s at this swedish site. And 5974 kByte/s at this belgian site. 2999,5 at this south african site.
It's a dsl provider called Adamo, I think it's spanish but I can't find their home page. Cheap and fast though. btw, check this out, 10 gigabits/s.
17619 Kb/s (kiloBITS per second) 2202 KB/s (kiloBYTES per second) (I hit back... hee, hee) I really got a 2796.2 kbps testing with roadrunner... And this.. 2004-11-10 17:47:20 EST: 3037 / 241 Your download speed : 3110262 bps, or 3037 kbps. A 379.6 KB/sec transfer rate. Your upload speed : 247127 bps, or 241 kbps. using "speakeasy"
Has anyone else had problems with Roadrunner the past 5 days? My service has been real flakey but they insist the problem is with my equipment.
