I am sure that is probably true. He is however a player that could return a lot of value and would not be missed.

Why? It would make him more in 26 than he otherwise would and he would be an unencumbered free agent in 27. Turning an offer down would be like throwing away 5-6 million dollars over the remainder of his career. It would be good for him and for us.

Delusion strong here. Correa would return no value, especially in light of his contract. And injury history. And recent performance.

Blockbuster to clear out St. Louis’ roster since they’re gonna rebuild:

    Astros get:
    SP Sonny Gray
    2B Brendan Donovan
    OF Lars Nootbar
    RP Jojo Romero

    Cardinals get:
    OF Cam Smith
    2B Brice Matthews
    P Bryce Mayer
    P Alimber Santa

Then Astros resign Caratini and flip Walker for Eduardo Rodriguez. Roster:

    2B Donovan
    1B Paredes
    DH Alvarez
    3B Correa
    RF Nootbaar
    SS Pena
    LF Altuve
    C Diaz
    CF Meyers
    Bench: Dubon, Caratini, Dezenzo, Cole
SP: Brown, Gray, Rodriguez, Javier, Arrighetti, Blubaugh
RP: Hader, Abreu, Romero, Sousa, King, Okert, De Los Santos

That roster is absolutely stacked. Smith is a huge piece to let go of but they’re getting 2 seasons of Donovan and 2 seasons of Nootbaar, plus a season of Gray and Romero.

Astros trade for Sandy Alcantara and Ronny Henriquez

Marlins get Brice Matthews, Jacob Melton, Miguel Ullola, Walker Janek and another guy outside the top 10.

Astros eat 14 million of Christian Walkers 40 million and spin him off to another team.

Astros sign Luis Arreaz to a 3/45 deal to play second and back up Paredes at first…. Altuve, Arreaz, Paredes, Correa and Alvarez - 5 guys rotating in 4 spots so they are not tired.

Sign one of Merrill Kelly/Zach Littel to a 3 year deal.

    Pena
    Correa
    Alvarez
    Altuve
    Paredes
    Arreaz
    Smith
    Cole
    Diaz

    Brown
    Alcantara
    Kelly
    Javier
    Arrighetti
    Blubaugh
    Blanco/Wiesnieski

    Hader
    Abreu
    Henriquez
    Sousa
    King
    Santa

    I like the idea of
I like most of this. Alcantara as a project. And the Kelly/Littel as back end starters. But no thanks on Arráez. He’s limited offensively. he has no power bat and would be forced to lead off

I love the final roster, although give me Okert over Santa. That’s an awful lot to give up for Alcantara but if Miller/Murphy say he’s an ace then ok. That seems like an overpay for Arraez, I would be more looking at something like $36M/4yrs.

I agree it is a lot on paper to give up for Alcantara. The reasoning is that you get him for a season and team option for the second season. He also can pitch deep into games, which is important to the Astros. In the second half he had an era of 3.30 in 13 starts and a WHIP of 1.00 and he cut his walks way down. The Astros also get an electric arm in Henriquez that is only 25 years old and under long term control. He struck out 100 betters in 70 innings last year.

I suspect that Arraez gets closer to 3/48 than 4/36, but we will see. I know that the Astros are at least somewhat interested, and he can play the right side of the infield and put the ball in play, he just doesn't strikeout and is a good bet to hit .300

And the Cards would love for Cam Smith to wreck the Cubs for the next 10 years.

Didn't we give up a bag of potato chips to get him?

Any player that can work a count . . . I'm eager for them to join this squad.

I'd like them to hit, whether it's the first pitch or the tenth.

But having a couple of guy who could make it to the 10th would be pretty cool.

There is no world where Framber does not get a $100+M offer

Ask Corbin Burnes why ANY SP shouldn't risk betting on himself.

Hell, ask Luis Garcia or Jose Urquidy

Then ask Lance McCullers Jr or Cristian Javier

I really like the idea of Luis Arreaz and have wanted him for a few years.
We need more bat to ball dudes

I’m a hard pass on Arreaz: no power, no speed, doesn’t walk and isn’t very good defensively. He was less valuable last year than Dubon despite having nearly 300 more plate appearances.

Luis Arreaz does not do one thing well and he doesn’t solve a single issue with this team, IMO.

    Agree.

    Empty calories.

He is a bad baseball player cos-playing as a good one because someone decades ago thought batting average was the be-all end-all
