In another group we were discussing romantic movies. Someone said BRIDGES OF MADDISON COUNTY I told them that was an interesting choice considering it is about an Affair they could not figure why it mattered To me. . . and Affair is a vile thing to do It is about deception, hurt and violation I could never truly see it as something ROMANTIC If the husband was abusive, vile, etc I may make it .. but in this particular movie the Affair was out of boredom more than anything . .. so I could not see THE GREAT ROMANCE in it She basically said. . it is entertainment and not reality so it was basically ok but to me. . That is like being a pacifist but loving blood and guts war movies The Ethical Vegetarian with the Leather Belt [as I think Jeff stated once] It is just ODD to me . .. near hypocritical I wanted to ask the great minds here . . . Your wife knows my position on this issue. (rimshot). sorry I had to be the first "great mind" to reply. Actually, I do think it boils down to deception, and I have a big problem with it.
My wife...who absolutely loves these types of movies...and anything with Meryl Streep (I sleep through a LOT of our rentals ), hated this movie for those very reasons, RR.
Begin Rant I had to weigh in here. Affairs are vile things. I have a few friends who: 1 - Were married 2 - Had an affair with another married person, and 3 - Ended up marrying that person. How can any trust exist in such relationships? Another thing that burns me up - Media types talking about this wonderful romance between Sheryl Crow and Lance Armstrong. What about the wife (and kids) who stuck with him through cancer. End Rant I will admit, however, that I have not walked a mile in any of their shoes.

His wife left him, you know. Something about the whole cancer experience being too emotional so now that it is over and he is "safe" she had to get away. Also, it was reportedly very civil and they remain close friends, so there also is not that negative association.
I don't know. I thought the Three Musketeers was romantic even though the D'Artagnan's love interest was married. It was set in a different time when most people couldn't choose their own spouse, so perhaps it is different. Edit: Of course I was talking about the book, and not any of the movie versions.
i totally agree with you. I do not understand why people think it is romantic movie. It is an affair. And she lies to her husband. There is no romance in it. About the three muskateers. in that setting the mariagge is aranged, and there was never any love in it, so it can be romantic if she finds somebody who she does love. When you marry a man or woman because you love him having an afair is the most terrible thing you can do to the other. So it is not romantic.
Not only is it not romantic because it is about an affair, it is not romantic because the two people are gross, wrinkly, old geysers. Seeing that movie scarred me for life. Nobody wants to SEE grandparents doing it.
