A Feud Between the President and the Vice President

Philippine president and vice president clash in a feud

Just over two years ago, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte won
in landslide electoral victories on a campaign battle cry of national unity.

Sara Duerte is the daughter of Marcos' predecessor Rodrigo Duerte, who earned international
infamy for the deadly narcotics crackdown that led to his arrest on March 11 on charges of
crimes against humanity.

She has been a strong opposition to congressional inquiries led by Marcos’ allies into the thousands
of deaths in the crackdown on drugs during Rodrigo Duterte’s presidency 2016-2022. Also being
investigated is her alleged misuse of funds while she served as education secretary.

The hostilities came to a head over the weekend when Sara Duterte told reporters

Marcos went on TV and declared he was ready to fight back​

“That criminal plot should not be allowed to pass,” Marcos said in a televised statement, without mentioning Duterte by name. “I’ll fight it.”

“As a democratic country, we need to uphold the rule of law,” Marcos said.
