Breaking: Ending a summer-long stalemate, Jonathan Kuminga has agreed to a two-year, $48.5 million contract to return to the Golden State Warriors, agent Aaron Turner told ESPN. The deal has a team option designed for the contract to be ripped up and renegotiated next summer.

Yeah I'm sure that's exactly what they told him about ripping it up haha. Basically, put up or shut up.

This is what I would pay Tari, but you know Tari is asking for the Jalen Green Contract.

He hasn't technically broken out.....that is basically what his camp is holding onto.....

that he has a splash season like Jordan Poole, basically hoping Himmy Butler misses significant time.

How? 24 mill per is great money for what he's shown.

He started 10 games last year, played 47, averaged 15/4/2 on 53% TS, and most importantly has been difficult with the coaching staff and FO over his role.

Guys like this don't get mega deals.

If he's not traded, it would not surprise me if the Warriors rip it up. The renegotiation is the part that surprises me, unless it is referring to the Warriors offering less money.

Kuminga turned down $75 million and instead took this contract. Crazy…

Its 24mil for one year and to give up complete control and leverage of his future

The money isnt an issue. He was already expected to get a contract of that size

It’s not a given that he got that money, could have easily been left with the QO or another teams MLE if GS refused to pay.

It’s 24 mill for one year and then he’s a UFA, or it’s 48 mill for 2 years and he’s a UFA. His future is not handcuffed and he’s getting paid more than fair in the meantime, imo

hes clearly fine with playing elsewhere and has all the leverage to get a better and longer deal out of them

The warriors cant afford to offer him the qo. They need to trade his contract to improve and he just gave them the most team friendly deal imaginable

Huh? The Warriors didn't want him. The Warriors were content either getting him on the qualifying offer, on a deal they could trade, or were willing to let another team take him. The team option is there so they can opt out if they can't trade him, and he doesn't improve enough. The Warriors had no motivation to offer him a contract that didn't give them value.

Personally, I'm surprised he got as much as he did in the situation he was in.

Exactly. I don't see the leverage Kuminga and his agent had against the Warriors. The Warriors only wanted Kuminga on a contract they could move easily which is what they offered him. I don't think they want Kuminga on their team for that contract, as they have guys who are better at scoring. Kuminga's options were to get control of his career after a year by taking the qualifying offer or make more money by accepting one of the options the Warriors offered. Maybe the best agent in the world could have eeked out another million or so, but Kuminga and his agent just didn't have leverage.
