I think he'll stay beyond that anyway tbh unless we're moving on from Ime for some inexplicable reason. I could see him genuinely playing out his career here in a diminished roll if Ime's here for the long haul.
He was by far the top prospect in that class and he looked really good when given legitimate playing time. Don't confuse lack of quantity with lack of quality.
If Reed fails I dont necessary think this would kill the team. Durant is can easily bring the ball up, set up Alpi for in the post and then run plays that way. I hope Reed can show off what he is capable like in the league. I don't trust Amen after seeing him bringing the ball up last year. Amen will get better, but he was making some awful passes last year.
Give Reed a chance to prove himself. Rockets could afford this untill proven otherwise (by dec 15? Or the next trading period) Trading him before the season (before even seeing what he is capable of), when his value is at its lowest (due to his average rookie performance) , is wrong for the franchise in the longer term.
For the Rockets, I doubt Reed's role has changed any but obviously they will love it if he can overachieve with this opportunity. The absence of FVV will be felt most by Durant, Amen, and Sengun as they will get the brunt of the ball handling and creating duties. Perhaps Durant would have wanted a large role regardless, but I had envisioned Durant being able to take a half step back.
Whether he starting or not, I'm looking forward to him playing... I ain't seen anything to make me optimistic that he'll be worth that high pick, but I'm hoping for a 12/5 line at the least in about 25 minutes ... That'll be a hell of a start
I'm sure he'll be fine as long as we don't need him to reach up and grab anything, apparently he has the standing reach of somebody half a foot shorter which could be one hell of a limitation.
Reed is going to be fine. His ball handling will just be dribbling up the floor and passing it to Durant, Sengun, or Amen. Just like Bari he needs to focus on defense and hitting his 3s. With Durant’s gravity and Sengun and Amen’s improvement, they should get tons of open looks. If Bari and Reed can get up to 40% on 3, and we have a relatively healthy squad, we can win it all.
...and then quickly weaving through a few defenders to lose his man and find himself open for a 3 above the break.
He is 100% all in on the Amen being the our PG of the future. He will be disappointed when Reed cements himself in that spot for the next decade+. Amen will continue to do what he does as a SF/SG and will be all-NBA if he ever becomes a good shooter. I also think Reed has an outside shot to be all-NBA in a few years. Alpi will be all-NBA for the next decade starting this year. We will have a home built big 3 and we have the bonus of KD's help until they all become all they can be. And no Jalen to weigh them all down this year.
