Demeco is a confidence and rah-rah guy. If the team rolls over this year and finishes with 4-5 wins... (or less at this rate)... then his approach isn't viable any longer. He's not an X's and O's technician type of guy, like a Ben Johnson of the Chicago Bears or Liam Coen of the Jaguars. The Colts and Jags are on the way up... we need to move quickly to turn this ship around.

Also, can we get an update on the development of rookie QB Graham Mertz?

If we lose to the Titans, all bets are off..............they suck worse than us, but hell I thought there was NO WAY we would lose to the hapless Jags. hell they tried to give us the win late in the game, but we said Oh Hell No :D

They have expended serious amounts of resources trying to get this offensive line improved and hasn’t worked.

I wish they would have been more aggressive in the offseason in pursuing o lineman in free agency. However, given the clear ineptitude of coaching on this team I’m not convinced it would have made a difference.

And alright yeah, “get better talent and hire better coaches” - terrific insight John Madden. Now tell me about how teams are more likely to win when they score more than their opponent.

Ultimately at the end of the day we’re on the same side of the argument, you’re just hyper focused on the specific approach to FA this offseason, saying they punted on the draft is a bit disingenuous when their top pick was on a lineman, but okay… I’m saying the coaching is more to blame than anything and has been for awhile.

Caserio also likely sucks at evaluating lineman.

But at this point I’m convinced the Texans offensive coaches would have Larry Allen looking like a backup.

Overall they are a worse team but our offense is so bad it may completely counteract anything the defense does.

Oops, my bad. Not their top pick, their other second round pick was on a lineman. I guess I completely forgot about their top pick (Higgins) because he rarely sees the field with Caley running the show. I’m sure it has to do with the stupid NE philosophy of “rookies don’t know anything”.

    Again, coaching…..

My brother in Christ. The Titans have TWO very good & above avg DT. Idk know if you noticed but our interior OL is cheese cloth and our ‘Patriots Way’ OC likes to run it up the middle. Prepare yourself for a loss.

No, Caserio needs to go, he’s the one that knew we needed an O-line coming into the season and traded away our best lineman while not having a real plan in mind to replace him. And (I could be wrong if I am please correct me) I feel the Caley hiring is more on him considering there “New England” connection, Slowik was the DeMeco hire. Honestly he should’ve never really been the GM to begin with, he only got the job because Easterby had Cal’s balls in a vice grip and kept trying to run this bs New England South front office. Don’t get me wrong there’s a bunch to get on Meco about, especially the lack discipline of preparation from his team come game day along with lacking in sense of urgency but he’s at least earned the right to have another year based on the last 2 seasons

I vehemently disagree they've "expended serious amounts of resources" on their OL. Name one legitimate linemen Caserio has signed or traded for during his five-year tenure here, and keep in mind: he inherited his two best linemen (Tunsil and Howard) and then traded one of them away

Caserio has made 41 picks as the Texans GM: four of them were linemen taken among the top 60; two first round picks. He’s drafted as many quarterbacks over that same timeframe as he has premium offensive lineman. He dealt a 6 for a last-legs Shaq Mason. He dealt (iirc) a 7 for Ed Ingram.

I'm sorry but I don't think any sane person would argue they've "expended serious amounts of resources". They've certainly wasted resources - but nowhere close to "serious amounts" IMO.

Let's compare Caserio's five years to what the Bears' did just this past offseason - traded for Thuney and Jackson, signed Dalman, drafted Trapilo top 60; drafted a tight end top 10. And they hired an experienced offensive line coach.

    Caserio signed Laken Tomlinson.

    Better players make a difference.

Yeah, it's so obvious...... Nick Caserio specifically did *not* do this........

Their top pick was NOT an offensive lineman! Jesus Christ, man. They could have drafted one in the first round - but traded down, took a WR and *then* took an offensive linemen. And then didn't take another one. But tell me again how they've "expended serious amounts of resources" on linemen.

And yes, coaching is an issue - again, when did I ever say otherwise? I'm not trying to determine which element has failed the Texans more; I'm arguing their ENTIRE approach to revamping the OL, from coaching to scheme to talent acquisition, was a total misfire.

I'd like to know too. Granted he was playing mostly against guys on the bubble, but I was somewhat impressed. Mertz seems to understand the flow of the game and make the right decisions. They should call him up and then ruin him too.

I don’t see why they would? Slowik’s a coordinator for a squad that has just as many wins as the Texans and O’Brien was so horrible as a GM that NFL franchises don’t trust him to be a head coach

Yeah, I was clearly referencing the resources spent on the offensive line in total since ~2019. It wasn't specific to Caserio. I dunno what to tell you man, drafting offensive linemen is spending resources. You choose to only view trading and signing lineman as "spending resources."

I mean I dunno fella, it's implied how flippant your attitude is towards the coaching aspect of this issue when every single time I bring it up, you just cast that aside as a footnote and starting bring up talent and "pedigree." You don't have to explicitly say "I think coaching is irrelevant compared to talent."

I think it's a bit more nuanced than that. This is the NFL, there is an opportunity to make something out of most of these players. They aren't coaching high school freshmen. And the physical difference between a passable offensive lineman and a bad one isn't the same difference as that between Rusty Smith and Lamar Jackson. Coaching/technique/scheme are so important for that position. You don't have to believe me - listen to former NFL offensive linemen. And I've said this previously and I'll say it again - THIS IS NOT THE ONLY POSSIBLE OUTCOME WITH THE CURRENT ROSTER. If players were coached better, played with better technique, were more prepared, it would make a world of difference.

This whole thing has now turned into somewhat of a straw man that I'm defending Nick Caserio or something. I'm not and he clearly has done a tepid job of evaluating lineman in the draft. What I do know is the defensive players he's draft are ****ing coached well, because if there's one thing Demeco does know how to do, it's silo himself off to his defense and coach them up, so it's the least surprising thing in the world that all these defensive picks are working out....I don't think anyone is off the hook, but I think it's lazy to pretend that they haven't utilized resources to try and address that problem. You want to hyperfocus on a couple of moves from the offseason, but in reality it's a deeper issue that goes back years, and drafting/evaluation and coaching/development are as much to blame as anything.

I really don't have the energy, time, or motivation to continue with this back and forth. I really only popped off initially because I was in no ****ing mood yesterday and you had the audacity to act like I was somehow defending the Texans for ****ing up this line situation (which btw, at the risk of opening another can of worms - even if it wasn't a disaster, I'm not sure it would fully remedy this current laughable offensive scheme).

More like 2-5 years. DeMeco isn’t the problem. He’s the coach so he is going to get the brunt of it, but you can only coach with the players you have.

Stroud is always regressing to the typical need immediate results coach potato. In this case, they aren’t wrong statistically or the eye test. The problem is that’s the narrative and it’s lazy and it takes an attention whoring **** stain to have to blabber on and on on the online..

Meanwhile the reality is- Stroud has a new OC, a skeleton of a run game and an O line that’s trying, but just not pro material (yet).

Say we lose Sunday……. Then it may be time to shoot for that early first round pick.

I would say he hit on Ersery, Ingram and Andrews were good pickups.

The OL isn't as bad as you think it is according to Demeco. The real problem is CJ's regression and it looks like he's checked out.
