Several reasons. First, I don't think that Capela is that good anymore, he declines, especially defensively last year. So I did not want to sign him. Second, it put them up against the apron. I know they wanted to cram as much in as they could, but it really limited them. Third, I wanted another creator/ball handler.
Go over the Luxury Tax for Quentin Grimes. Rockets need to take this Risk. They should go all in. Rockets are in a lucky position that Quentin Grimes is available this late in the off-season. Go for it, pay the man.
Yeah 100% agree about the lack of creators here - that's been my #1 wish this offseason as well...leaving it to the development of Amen, Reed, Jabari, Tari is probably not the right answer. Replacing Green and Cam with KD is a big win but also a big risk for a guy who generally missed 20-25 games a season with age related maladies.
I ****ing hate fvv but there are no upgrades over him on this team lol... Stone decided to use what little we had left to sign yet ANOTHER wing defender instead of addressing the fact we have 0 competent guards
Reed Sheppard is easily an upgrade over FVV and there is no shortage of ball handlers on the team. Hell just not having FVV available for Ime's dumb ass to play 40 minutes a game scoring 8 points on 15 shots should be seen as an upgrade.
It was questionable at the time and looks bad in hindsight. Especially when we look at the glut of wings.
I don't think we turned him into anything. It was more that he wasn't ready to be a PG when he came into the league, but luckily, he had the athleticism to become an elite defender and stay in the rotation playing multiple positions. He became what his brother was known for in high school/OTE. There aren't too many players in the league who come into the league at PG, find they're not ready to be a PG, but somehow manage to be a dominant player in other ways. That being said, it still remains to be seen if he can handle PG duties.
If you don't think Amen will be a competent "guard" you may be the dumbest basketball fan that has ever lived.
There's a big difference between being a PG in a joke of a bush league and being a PG in the NBA. Amen is an incredibly athletic defensive minded forward who can pass a bit. I think they could make him a solid enough secondary or tertiary ball handler, but it would be to his detriment since he's far better off ball cutting to the basket or killing it in the dunker's spot and we know he'll never sit well enough to be a real guard. Trying to make him Ben Simmons when he's already more than that in his current role is a weird choice.
