Astros have quit. They are not doing crap even if they somehow sneak into the playoffs. It would be a waste of time
I see we had our normal game, bases loaded no outs and and scored 1 and then completely dead after that. I'd be less annoyed if we were just losing slugfests due to the pitching injuries.
This. Exactly. This group isn't special. The chemistry doesn't seem to be there like it has been in the past, it's just a group of guys doing a job together. I'd like for them to make the postseason, but let's be honest, even if they do it isn't going to amount to much. Better to lower your expectations completely and hope for one of those unexpected miracle runs, because the reality of the situation is that this team, for many reasons, just isn't what we have all grown accustomed to.
Walker sat 1 game recently and said he expects to play everyday. After yesterdays game Walker: " There’s no question there’s a lot on the line, but the conversations we have often amongst ourselves is, ‘Does trying harder help?’” Walker said. “A game [on] Sept. 24 matters just as much as a game [on] April 24. For us, it’s about staying the course. We’ve been a good team all year. We prepare the right way, we work hard, we’re ready for this moment, we’re ready to get hot and earn our way into the postseason. We've just got to trust that we’re ourselves out there and everything will be all right. " Ready to get hot? No change needed? Prepare the right way? Earn place in post season? Good team all year? Either Joe gives the team positive glowing feedback everyday no matter the effort or Walker is full of s**t and guys have given up while back and booked their off season family vacays and he just making silly soundbites for media. This team has no leaders. Also starting to think Walker might be absolute c**t.
The one good thing Joe is supposed to be good..managing the locker-room and he's failing at that now.
Agreed, there is no cohesiveness to this team, just a bunch of dudes going to play a game with no outward passion..............its a game dude, show some spirit. IMO Espada isnt the answer and TBH he did some good things this year with what he had, but IMO he is not a leader of men. I doubt we get into the playoffs which sucks but we had a hell of a run, I would rather not get in then get in and suck up the place. The frustrating part is we have 4 more years of "this" Altuve and we cant seem to hit on a good first baseman................if we can shop Walker, I wouldn't be mad. Lets stick with Cam and bring up Mathews and Cole next year and see if we can kick start the season next year with a core group of younger players lead by Pena.
Exactly, and Espada clearly has no juice.... Blow it up, get some youth in here with upside and find some pitchers whose elbows are not made of synthetic gause. DD
If we can unload Walker, Pareda will make a fine 1b. If they are going to run it back with Alvarez and Pena still on board, they need to sign a TOR pitcher in the off-season (not wait until the deadline). Altuve will have to go back to 2b if they keep Alvarez. Cole needs his shot. I’m not high on our other position players that are “ready” next year. Matthews, Melton, and Dizenzo were all pretty unimpressive. I expect Cam to perform well next year. Myers is fine in the 9 hole if he can stay healthy. We still have a championship level team cooking if the injury gods will just give us a break. Pretty freakin’ excited about our young pitching coming up. Espada has to go.
I’m sorry DD, but you are way out of your element in the baseball forum. Even after having the most IL visits in major league history we are still a possible post-season team. It has been a disappointing season, but our minor league system is absolutely loaded with grade A pitching prospects. Walker will be traded and Paredes will take over 1b. Barring injuries our line-up will be stacked 1-9 if Cole (30-30 potential) and Smith come through and still potent even if they are just average. We need a new manager and a TOR innings eater to replace Framber and we are set for another contending season. 2b is a problem defensively and I’m not excited with our infield prospects. We are not an aging team. Most of our players other than Altuve and Walker should be in their prime. Espada is a bad manager and he will be jettisoned unless we make a miracle run. Assuming a Walker trade and one pitching acquisition, the roster should be one of the best in the American League: Pena SS Altuve 2b Alvarez DH Paredes 1b Correa 3b Diaz C Smith RF Cole Lf Myers CF Brown Framber replacement Javier Blubaugh Arrighetti, Walker, Pecko, Ullola, Alexander, Wesneski are all possiblities. Hader, Abreu, and whatever other genius moves Dana makes. If they do decide to trade one of our major contributors, I hope it is Alvarez, but would only do it for an absolute haul that included a TOR pitcher. That would clear Altuve to DH.
