Episode 7 was a little clunky. I’ve noticed that non-Hawley directed episodes on both Fargo and this series are a crapshoot on quality and cogency. Why did Morrow’s ops guys all throw their gear into the water? EyeGuy being able to read English numbers for Pi was a stretch. Would have made more sense if Boy Genius had made simple marks. The ineptitude of the Prodigy security is up there with Storm Troopers. Was hoping for more EyeGuy action this episode but I guess it will all come together in episode 8. Anyone else think there’s some sort of symbolism with Dame’s big alien hair? You nailed it. She has a pet xeno. Wreaking. ; ) 100% They’re almost telegraphing the future EyeBoy union. I’ve been watching Fargo over the last couple of weeks and so far the writing on this show is far inferior. Unless Hawley wrote the idiocy of the characters on purpose as a homage to horror movies.
I keep going back and forth on this. I'd like to think Kirsh has his own agenda, but it does seem in hindsight like how he played Morrow assisted Kavalier perfectly. I guess it depends on what Kirsh does with the Arthur xenomorph he captured. I still think there is an outside chance that Kirsh is working for one of the other 3 big companies of which we have seen very little. Sometimes the writing on this show tickles me with how silly it is. It amounted to nothing, but after the facehugger impregnated Arthur fully while Smee and Slightly were distracted by the patrol, it apparently rolled off Arthur, climbed a tree?, all while Arthur came to and wandered off away from the two boys. Except that I'm pretty sure historically the facehuggers just flat die once they are done impregnating, so there was no reason it should have gotten up in the tree except to create a jump scare. Again, it amounted to nothing, but kind of tickled me.
Kirsch definitely has an agenda but Boy Kavalier might know what it is and just allow it. Interesting theory that he may be an agent of one of the other four companies. Good point on the facehugger. Incongruous.
I thought it took longer for them to burst out but then again . . .. timeframes are blurry. The question is.. . . . .How much information does EyeGoat retain from his hosts? We know he has inhabited at least 1 human. Would have been interesting to have more than one Eye Alien Rocket River
One thing I recently learned that is quite disappointing is that Alien Earth isn't meant to be canon to the movies. It's an alternate reality. So they can make up whatever they want to fit their story. Some reviewer calling Alien Earth the Andor to the franchise is looking real silly.
I have a theory that EyeGuy might be more than one creature, sort of a colony of seven Eye creatures glommed together. Remains to be seen how it will all shake out. Could end up being better and the start of something amazing. Or it could end up being the new Star Trek movies, which aren't bad but pretty much dismissed by all hardcore fans.
While Andor was good as a series, what elevated it to the next level was how well it slotted into the canon and continuity of the films. Alien Earth totally could've been written to fit with the films. We all know there's not much consistency already in the films. Black goo is hardly explained either. Alien Earth just didn't want to fit with the movies so they could write whatever they wanted.
Honestly - It COULD be canon still if they wanted it. Prometheus: (2089-2093) Alien: Covenant: (2104) Alien: Earth: (2120) Alien: (2122) Alien: Romulus: (2142) Aliens: (2179) Alien 3: (2179) Alien: Resurrection: (2381) You just have to feel that Prometheus and Covenant were so hush hush that no one knew about them I mean Yutani would know since they were their projects Then again maybe how they knew where to get these specimen (Heck I think they the ones that diverted the ship in the original Alien) but IF they say its not .. its not Rocket River
Hawley already said while the Canonicity was not there, he really wanted to stick to the Core Principles so it would not go as crazy as you might think it would.... Alternate Timeline means it is a new story within similar concepts. They have artistic freedom to the newer Creatures/Life forms but people still recognizes it as Alien.
had low expections as is sci fi tv show, been very pleasenlty surprised with the quality and budget. really only care about the eye squid at this point tho, TEAM EYE SHEEP!
I had a suspicion that Spoiler Hermit was going to boy genius' target for the eye monster. Did not suspect that bald guy Spoiler ...was an android ...though it seems obvious in retrospect. Spoiler Octopus pod plant monster was awesome. Need more of that in season 2.
they just left me with gargantuan sized blue balls I waited all season for this smug MFer to finally die or for Eye Goat to get his revenge and fck him up
How is Wendy able to control all the cameras and technology in the building? Did I miss the explanation for that?
overall, I enjoyed this series and give it a 7.5/10 some of the writing was just too much for me to overlook…making characters insanely dumb is a pet peeve of mine…I hate when they do it in horror movies, and I didn’t like it here but all the stuff with the aliens and the kills were cool, and I came to enjoy the hybrids and synths Morrow was great, and shoutout to this dude I hope Welcome to Derry can be as good as this
The closure/cliffhanger ratio was a little lower than I like, but this was a successful first season. They can build on it and probably get 2-3 more with no problem. There are several interesting arcs deliberately left open for season 2 and I expect the show to level up now that the foundation is laid. It was cool to sponge off of my son's Disney+/Hulu account and blow through E8 without commercials.
I'm out for season 2. The writing and quality is too stupid for me to overlook. To start with the episode, why don't these soldiers carry any weaponry capable of hurting the xenomorph? They get a clear headshot when it stalks Dame Sylvia at the graves, but it barely tickles the xenomorph and it runs away unharmed. Again with the overused fade transitions. It's too much and not artistic at all. Now Wendy has superpowers to control any electronic device? Wtf? That's not OP at all, nor ever explained how she can do that other than demonstrated once to communicate to Hermit. Oh, Yutani is jamming the island. That should be a code red to deploy the full Prodigy military to the island once they have no contact with the boss. But nope, they're on their own. Your own created synths are rebelling against you? And you didn't have a failsafe in the chance they turned hostile? Stupid. Which goes along with the inability to turn on their trackers remotely in the previous episode. Kavalier orchestrated the Maginot crashing into his territory so he could possess the specimens, one-upped Yutani during the mediated arbitration, and anticipated Morrow's infiltration to the island to capture him, but Kavalier didn't think of any method to keep his synths in check? And the Wendy closeups on her throat clicking got so old and unpleasant to watch. It's almost fetish-like ASMR stuff. The writers couldn't think of a different way to demonstrate how she communicates to xenomorphs? The lab scene to kill off Hermit's teammates served no purpose other than fan service to show off the plant creature. First, why did the soldiers even enter the lab? They were going to the armory to procure stronger weapons. Second, using the trope of the startled soldier blind firing that kills the teammates is so eyeroll. So what was actually good about the series other than being in the Alien franchise? The fanservice for the xenomorph murdering anything in its way (except for Hermit for plot armor reasons) wasn't enjoyable. In all the movies, the xenomorphs stalked their prey and were terrifying but vulnerable to weaponry. The xenomorphs in this show are invincible and an instant murder button for any nonessential character. Boring. The new aliens are intriguing, but there's not much focus on them. Most viewers are just blueballing themselves to see what they'll do. Have the ticks multiplied and eradicated the Prodigy city after escaping the ship? What will the metal-eating flies do? And why couldn't they dissolve their cages to escape? Eye monster is everyone's favorite and has been given more of the screentime. The plant finally did something, but it's the exact same thing as the xenomorph: stalk and kill. The writing for the human characters and the lost boys has been astronomically dumb. That hardly seems redeemable in the upcoming season.
I enjoyed the finale even though it was mostly set up for next season which I'm totally on board for. So the octopus spider will be this guy next season.....
I liked it. Honestly It could have been better but still better than alot of the movies I get the feeling that this Island will basically become Jurrasic Park. A Isolated and restricted part of Earth no one goes to . . .except random dummies Rocket River
