Sheppard is not even ready to play off the bench regularly. We're screwed if they dont get another guard.
Bullshit We have: Amen Holiday Reed We will be fine....faster, longer and better shooting...... As long as KD doesn't get injured we will be miles better, it was arguable whether we even sign FVV this year anyway....his days as a starter were numbered. DD
How the hell would Whitmore help in replacing our starting PG? If Amen ends up switching to PG, we've got way more ready SGs to step in for him than Cam is right now.
If the starting lineup is... Reed Amen Durant Jabari Sengun I like that, I'd ride with that. All Reed has to do is hit his open shots and not turn the ball over and he'll be fine. Durant and Sengun and Amen to a point will have most of the gravity I imagine.
Oh he wouldn't but we need more shooting at SG/SF - or he could have been packaged for a Vet PG......more of an asset thing really. DD
Tbh I think this gives him a better shot to develop and could work well based on his style. When he had time to be in the flow of the game he played much better, he’s not really a give the ball to when you need instant offense off the bench. If he can just get us in our sets, Amen, Sengun, and Durant can play make. He’ll get plenty of good looks with the attention Sengun and Durant will command
Whether Finney-Smith or Sheppard start, the Rockets have enough depth to weather the storm. Plus, they have tradable assets to get point guard depth if they want.
Reed nor Amen are going to have VanVleet’s exact role. It will likely be playmaking by committee with Sengun and Durant leading the way. Whatever Amen and Reed contribute in this regard is a bonus. The more the merrier, of course.
Amen can play PG or SG, among other positions. Having a guy that can play SG minutes (Okogie) over one that can't (Cam) does help the PG spot by allowing Amen to play PG more if need be. I'd prefer to have FVV out there as a PG to help the other two develop if he was healthy.
Yeah, this season really comes down to if Sengun and Amen can continue to develop anyways, if those two take another leap then FVV is easily expendable. It'd be nice if Jabari improves and of course this is Reed's second year and a lot of players take large jumps in their 2nd or 3rd year. We are already a playoff team, but to become a championship team we need Sengun and Amen to be bonafide all-stars. Any internal growth we get from Reed, Bari, Tari, is a bonus.
Reed was at his best as a starter last year, and his best game was against the world champs. He'll never be "HIM", but he can absolutely be a starter on a championship team.
He doesn’t have a snow ball’s chance in hell of filling this void. He didn’t even get a rookie season lol
Isn’t there some kind of insurance that we can file that gives us salary space to sign another player? Whether there is any worthy player out there is a different story of course.
I don't understand how this became a Cam grievance vehicle. There was no universe in which Cam was performing any function that FVV performed whatsoever, what are people even talking about.
Amen will play a lot of PG minutes now. It'll be interesting to see whether they believe in Reed enough to start him or start another guy like Holiday or Okogie and bring Reed off the court. We knew Fred would miss at least some games, maybe significant amount. That's why ignoring the guard depth is really short-sighted IMO. If they really believe that there's no difference between SF and SG, then how about starting starting DFS or Tari at the 2?
We'll find out soon enough. Stone and Ime talked Sheppard up during the summer. When asked about whether Reed was ready to play a bigger role this upcoming season, as a reserve of course, Stone said something along the lines of "he'd better be". They could have pursued an experienced PG instead of more wing depth, but they have that kind of faith in Reed. Or maybe they just think Amen can fill in at PG well too so didn't care about having that kind of insurance, but I think there is a decent chance that they both start the season now.
