I think it's very rude of the Astros to still be in the hunt for 2nd overall place in the AL (Espeically with all of their injuries). I mean, I wonder how the other teams feel seeing us right there despite?
people were clamoring for Espada as Manager of the Year 3 months ago (which i thought was HELLA premature), no? Miller has been getting props since day 0. The only scrutinized ones are 3B coach and hitting coach.
Pretty ridiculous that mlb network would show the NL game instead in the Stros viewing area. Not hurting me, but still...
The Astros should focus on winning. They control their own destiny for the division. If the Guardians win then it improves the Astros chance of a bye. If the Tigers win it improves their NC chances of locking in a playoff spot and being able to reset their rotation or rest guys if needed.
I get that. But I proclaim the Astros will not get past the divisional round if we have to play the Wild Card round. Our starting rotation will be screwed up and that will be that. Let's go Cleveland. If Cleveland catches us, that means we lost the division to Seattle. There is enough time between the divisional and the Conference Championship round, however, that you can get your rotation back to square one. That's our path to the World Series. The only path.
I know everyone likes to s!!t on the hitting coach whenever some guys don't hit, and I get it, but: It's gotta be hard to teach players who are stuck in their ways into trying something a little different during the season
The AL doesn’t get a day off between games 1 and 2 in the ALDS so you’re correct in that it makes the SP situation difficult. We wouldn’t be able to throw Hunter on normal rest until game 3 because of this. I still think there would be a chance to beat the Tigers. Probably losing game 1 to Skubal, but if you can steal game 2, you then have Hunter going game 3 at home in a pitching matchup that will heavily favor us. Tigers game 2 starter is going to be beatable.
What does a Detroit loss mean? We are 1 game behind, needing to be 2 games better than them over the next 9 games. The only way we are even going to have a discussion about getting a bye is to win the division so let's start there. So let's give the Astros a 2-1 series win over Seattle. If we go 4-2 in the last week of the season, Detroit cannot be any worse that 5-4 the rest of the way to hold on to the bye. Atlanta is certainly not laying down for anyone. If they take 2 of 3 from the Braves, they would need to go 2-4 the rest of the way for the Astros to get the bye. It's right there to be had. I do believe if we take 2 of 3 from Seattle that we will go 5-1 next week.
Also, for fun: Skubal entered this game .01+ ERA points ahead of Hunter Brown for the AL lead Current AL ERA lead: Brown: 2.27 Skubal: 2.48 (unless my math is wrong) Crochet: 2.63
The real issue is we start that Detroit series with our 4th and 5th best starter options. I don't think anyone right now even knows who that would be. Not ideal.
2.23, he didn't give up the runs in the 7th, he was already done for the day. We traded Melton to them and they inexplicably let him pitch the 7th inning.
Now that I look, I did my in-game Skubal calculations off of "runs" not "earned runs" I think Stupid B-R excel columns.
