I hear the argument but if you fire DeMeco and Nick is still picking the players the team will still suck. Last night I became a Cary McNair fan, I want the ownership challenged and then the team sold.
Exactly this. I’m not sure why the Texans didn’t hire an experienced OC. Preferably one with ahead Coaching experience. An older guy that is no threat to DeMeco. Ownership and the front office should have insisted on it. Similar to when they forced Wade Phillips on Kubiak.
I love Demeco and Nick, but their flaws are showing in a major way, Nick cannot pick O Lineman and Demeco should have hired an experienced OC. The O Line was a problem last year and is once again our biggest weakness. At this point there isn't much you can do except try and get better, we have a hell of a schedule coming up and its not going to be easy, hell the Jags game should be an easy win but not sure now. Not fixing the O Line "should" be a fire able offense when you have a rookie QB not getting paid yet, who by the way looks like he is having ZERO fun out there and grows more frustrated by the day Can they turn this around, I guess but I don't see us scheming our way out of this with no quality on the O Line. This sucks as a fan
He’s not getting fired and neither is the brand new OC. There’s really no point in discussing this. He’s also no more than an average coach at this point. A cooler Bill O’Brien with a better attitude.
You are part of the problem my friend. Excusing the same issues year and year out. Let me ask you something. What has improved from last year to this year? More discipline? More creativity on offense? Better Leadership? Nothing. Do you realize how insane it is to give up so many key conversions due to penalties every game because of the dumbest stuff? Seems like a coaching issue. Next. The book is still out on Stroud. I personally believe that we created a terrible environment for him to grow in and have potentially damaged his career due to the lack of a consistent pocket. The fact that a lot of the pressures on him are immediate destructions of an O-lineman makes it hard for him to settle since at any moment someone could get destroyed and his head ripped off. This makes other throws rushed and hard to feel comfortable int he pocket. So what did this team do? They KEPT a coach from last years o-line room to coach the team. Number 1. Number 2, they made a critical mistake in bringing another first time play caller because we now have ZERO new data on Stroud. For all we know its the OC's fault that it seems like this offense if incapable of producing any consistent production. If we hired an OC that has had success in the past play calling then at least we could point to the fact that Stroud is not playing well and have evidence that it might not be the OC but now we have ZERO EVIDENCE as to where the blame goes. Another Demeco catastrophic mistake. Also, in general, my general issue with hiring defensive minded head coaches is the fact that if he hires a good OC he will be GONE in two years to get a head coaching gig. Thats how things go. So in order for it to work the coach has to be bringing more to the table than just being a DC. Like DISCIPLINE, LEADERSHIP, CLOCK MANAGEMENT, all areas that he is horrific in. And before anyone says anything about leadership remember that we have had the same issues for multiple years now. Thats HIS job to correct. Also this clown team is trading for future picks when our O-line is getting destroyed on a regular basis and decided to not allocate any resources/FA's to fix the issue is mind boggling. Bottom line this team is never winning anything with Demeco as a head coach its the same story every year. If you're not an offensive minded HC, then you better be bringing a lot to the table and he brings nothing besides for calling defensive plays. We essentially have a good DC as a head coach. But yall will continue to excuse mediocrity and this soft owner will continue the status quo. He will get fired either at end of the year or next year for sure I hope we go after an offensive minded coach like Mcconnell or Mcvay on the next one. Look what the colts are doing with DANIEL JONES. End rant.
Said this in another thread - but DeMeco (almost certainly) hired Caley (eschewing an experienced OC), promoted Popvich (I can't fathom why) and (again, I'm guessing - but I doubt Caserio initiated it) demanded they trade Tunsil. I'm guessing Caserio, who's looking at huge cap hits from Stroud and Anderson, likely ran from big free agent contracts for offensive linemen. But that + being passive in the draft was a terrible course of action. If the offense doesn't get markedly better, Caley should be one-and-done and Cal (Hannah) should take a page from his father's playbook and DEMAND Ryans hire the best, most experienced offensive coordinator to replace him. Frankly, he should've done it this offseason.
Real quick: the Colts have a better OL, running back and more playmakers than the Texans. That team is much better-constructed than this one. While I don't disagree there are several other issues we shouldn't ignore (tackling; discipline; too many big plays), the offensive line is THE issue. It is single-handedly stalling Stroud's growth, grinding the offense to an alarming halt and putting too much pressure on the defense. I was dismayed at their approach to it this offseason but hoped they had a firm, tangible plan. Maybe it gets better - but, right now, their awful offseason is being EXPOSED. The offensive line not being priority one with a mf'ing bullet is DeMeco's greatest failure.
I assumed when we did not get any "big name" FA OL, it was because the new scheme was better and we were told Slowik was the issue, ok cool, you're the experts, and now the finished product is more of the same from last year?? This makes ZERO sense and is seriously hampering CJ`s ability to get better, to be fair CJ has to have better ball placement, but it's hard to judge CJ when the O Line sucks so badly. The Bucs had the same issues, injuries to the OL, shuffling them in the game and we could not dunk on them. They have a first year play caller and ours is more of the same........no scheme, no nothing and then to go shotgun 3 straight plays from the one, I have to wonder after the second time Demeco doesn't say something It's still early but nothing I have seen so far gives me any hope that we can go toe to toe with the likes of the Ravens and Bills and thats what I thought this off season was all about................I thought the loss to the Rams was a gut punch, this one hit worse. Are we going to make Lawrence look like the second coming of Dan Marino next week?
Did OG Quentin Nelson come back after he got hurt early? I don't remember. Indy's offense looks great so far, they're thin at WR though, but kinda make up for it with a great TE Their defense is not good.
I don’t think the Colts WRs are thin at all. They don’t have anyone as good as Nico, obviously - but Pittman, Pierce & Downs are all better than our 2-4, and Warren is a legit weapon. Anthony Richardson has held that WR group back.

You know why, because this is the last straw that broke the camel's back. Last week we made the excuse that it was one game blah blah but we are now seeing a trend of the same issues happening again and again. A team could be bad it is what it is, but the level of self destruct and self destruction is hard to watch when it CLEARLY is a trend. People like you who excuse incompetence are the reason the Texans are the Texans.
Calley is near the bottom of the performance list. I wouldn't think they would change this early, but they might. DeMeco needs a top-notch support staff. I don't think he has one.
If DeMeco had been thinking with his brain instead of his balls, he would've kicked the FG on 4th down, and we'd all be celebrating a Texans victory.
