There are worse people out there than Charlie Kirk - and he didn't deserve to be assassinated - but he has said some wild things.

He talked about stoning to death gay people and it being God's perfect law.

I remember him making comments about British or Western colonialism making the world good or decent.

He made comments about wanting to bail out the person that took a hammer to Paul Pelosi's skull.

He believed in the Great Replacement Theory.

He several times said women should submit to their husbands.

So - yeah, Kirk said and spread some nasty ****. I certainly don't think he is a martyr, no matter how badly some want him to be. I think some of his believes and comments are repugnant, but that is just my opinion - and he had the right to his opinion and should have been able to discuss it without being shot in the neck.

With the history of Donald Trump and his purging of apolitical people from agencies that put country first - and replacing them with under qualified people that put loyalty to Trump over country--- we sadly cannot trust anything that Kash Patel and the other corrupt morons conclude. It is a sad day that for the first time we cannot trust anything that a government agency says because of their loyalty.

So - half or more of the country isn't going to believe anything that is said - and that is really concerning from a health of the Republic standpoint.

When was the last time a FBI director was tweeting out foxnews articles instead of publishing a statement

If I'm the defense attorney of the suspect I'm licking my chops at all the irresponsible leaks that have been published.

I went to D&D to comment on Kirk's murder, but did not see a thread ... so I started this one. The first thread comment was about my ignore list ;) My first comment was about "political violence was not the answer".

I then went looking for the "ignored" thread ... and OMG ... it was so ignore worthy.

I am glad that this thread provided an outlet for those who wanted to post more reflectively and let tinman's thread be for the more hair-on-fire folks.

    This has me really worried.

When the truth is political, things get bad quickly.

If I'm in the FBI there is absolutely NO WAY I am publishing, let alone leaking, information that makes Republicans or the President look bad.

Putting on my conspiracy hat, which I hardly ever do... It feels like the longer it takes for information to come out, the more we can assume that there is some rat ****ery going on.

Hopefully one thing we can all agree upon is that the president should have no authority to purge law enforcement..the executive shouldn't be nominating the fbi director or have the power to purge career officials without cause. We've given way too much power to the executive branch and it was only a matter of time till it gets abused.

Hopefully whoever runs in 2028 runs on campaign on giving more power back to the people and away from politicans who are crooked

I agree - and this was a planned and executed change by Trump and his handlers.

They first argued and gas lit the idea that truth is relative, that alternative facts are as good as actual facts.

They then argued that the opinion of someone that has no formal or other training is as valid and deserves the same weight as someone that is an expert. So scientists and doctor's don't have any more insight than a security guard on issues like medicine and science.

That was followed up by arguing that people should not trust any authority figures when they are counter Trump - that they all are compromised, and that Trump isn't the swamp, but all of these independent agencies are.

Trump then purged all of the checks and balances of independent people and apolitical people and replaced them with people that are loyal to Trump above all else - and their ability wasn't as important as their lack of ethics and willingness to defend Trump at all costs.

So now - we get to see this new machine that Trump built in action, and it is clumsy and clearly biased --- and as a result no one can objectively believe anything they say, as they are by plan very compromised and loyal to Trump before the truth or the American people.

This is good for Trump - like everything Trump does, but it is also bad for the country long term.... but Trump doesn't really care about that, he only cares about what benefits himself and all collateral damage is irrelevant.

We should all agree on this point - but we don't, not after the last 10 years.

MAGA believes that executive authority trumps everything. That is how they justify what Trump is doing.

That isn't going to change in 2028 - JD Vance believes that the US people are not smart enough to know what is going on, and that the country should be ruled by an absolutist King or CEO.

That's an opinion piece with no sources to the claims made therein.

We can't prove a negative, but I feel confident in thinking that if this guy was a clear-cut leftist they'd be publicizing every morsel of evidence they could find.

Can't we all come together and have "Unity" of threads? JD Vance would probably say no.

Don't worry - they are working on cobbling something together made of half-truths, omitting other relevant information and portraying the shooter as a radical leftist indoctrinated by trans Marxists. Regardless of whether this is true or not, this is how Kash and the rest of the MAGA people in positions of power will have it depicted. They already tried to control the narrative on Epstein by having MAGA apologists "question" her after giving her ridiculous concessions - which is conveniently never discussed by them.

At this point any informed American cannot listen to anything from the federal government - I am sure we will soon hear how Autism was caused by vaccines or something else that suits the needs of MAGA.

The truth no longer trumps all - we have a virtual Banana Republic government made of self serving people that are beholden to Trump and pass fantastical conspiracy stories as truth. Even Alito in a SCOTUS ruling made reference to a debunked conspiracy theory as true. Simply wanting something to be truth is enough for these people.

Watching MAGA run around and try canceling anyone who isnt crying over Kirk has been the most insane thing to watch. These are the same people that claimed January 6 was a hoax but somehow if anyone disagrees with them over Kirk they demand them canceled

RWers have no shame and want everyone to capitulate to their whelms. They have the god given right to troll as much as they want and talk as much **** as they want but if anyone disagrees with them rhey have to be canceled

Even if one prefers the Republican platform to the Democratic one, this was always the big danger with electing Trump a second time. He’d staff the government with unprincipled yes men who have no respect for constitutional governance, or the truth.

This is why the Right is so focused on Christianity. As someone who was raised in a very Christian household, but one that taught about serving your fellow man through acts of service and love, it's a very disturbing what is happening here in America and globally. Here in America they are aim to take the Christ out of Christianity and call it "religious freedom" when they implement Christian sharia law.
