Not a bad idea if he's ok with not being in the regular rotation. Definitely a good emergency backup.
Beverly was massively overrated even before he became a gimpy mental midget with a napoleon complex. No thanks at any contract.
Haha. That’s true. Hopefully Holiday is our third string backup. I would seriously rather have Bo Nix on this team.
I think Holiday is very underrated on this board. He basically did not fit with Jalen Green as neither could guard up the defensive scale. FVV or Amen to handle the ball, Holiday was fine as a shooter and wasn't exposed defensively by forwards without Green. Holiday's problem has been he just was tasked to do more than be a shooter as the young guys get better. I think Amen and Sengun will be good enough with the ball this season along with Durant that Holiday could shine as a backup if Reed falters. I don't think he will get much time as the Rockets need to spoonfeed Reed minutes this season. It would not surprise me if Reed hits that the Rockets trade FVV such that Holiday is Reed's backup and someone like Okogie is Amen's backup next season.
People say that Reed is an undersized SG. That is actually Holiday. He is a bad playmaker playing the PG role. He's good at shooting open 3s. So he needs to pair with a PG. But he's too small to play alongside FVV, and now is probably too small to play alongside Reed too. I'd say Holiday is better than Beverley on offense and worse on defense.
I was thinking something similar .... problem is, while the team has an open roster spot, it doesn't have enough cap room between the current figure and the 1A to offer him a minimum contract. They have ~54% of a minimum which equates to ~45 games. They can fill that roster spot with that money below the 1A after 37 games have been played. Mark January 14th on your calendar's, that's the first date they can fill that spot. Thing is, who else might shake loose between now and then or after the trade deadline? The trade deadline is Feb5th 2026 and we typically see a few useful vets cut / waived / bought out in what we call the buyout market. That's 16 games deeper into the season. Do sign a guy at the 37 game mark or do you wait for the buyout market where you might get a better player 16 games deeper into the season? I suppose that health of the team in general, along with how Shepard is playing will have a major impact on the answer to that question.
I'd just point out that Holiday with either Amen or FVV and without Green absolutely shredded opposing teams last season. With FVV, the Rockets also shredded teams in the season before. I'd be hesitant to play Reed with Holiday. Holiday's problem was when he had to lead the backend of the roster or when he was playing with Jalen Green, as neither was a PG, and their weaknesses overlapped.
