Unless they really need the 40-man spot, I see no reason to not give him a full offseason and then see what he looks like in ST. Cut him then and eat the money if that's what it takes.
Absolutely. Tell him take the offseason, get ready, come to spring training, and EARN a roster spot. Very very little downside in reserving a 40 man spot for him over the offseason. If he still doesn’t have it next spring, he can fake another injury and retire. I think McCullers is washed and has hurt the team with his performance this season, but in my opinion he has nothing to be ashamed of and Astros fans should still revere him. He just should pitch for the Astros anymore unless he proves he can be competitive.
alright people, Paredes coming back is gonna happen. Do we see him during the critical homestand vs TEX and SEA? He is a great bat for Daikin, but damn that seems too soon. Definitely not the rangers series, but maybe Seattle at the earliest? or do we bring him back for the six road games to close out the season.
just as important- who plays where and what’s the resulting lineup impacts. Enquiring minds want to know.
I can’t see it. Correa is a brilliant 3B. Not sure it is worth disrupting that to put Paredes at 3B and risking reeinjury Paredes has played 11 games at 2B and coming off major injury. Altuve at 2B is a better choice, even though he isn’t good.
So I guess Alvarez to left every time Paredes plays? Surely they can’t take Walker’s bat out of the lineup regularly.
It's been weeks clear that Altuve needs rest and Joe has been using him still daily. Was the doofus playing 4D chess trying to solve infield log jam? Paredes coming back Altuve to IL possibly. Back to back wins which is great. Had us scoring over 10 though because Elder is just horrible. The Braves are just waiting for the season to end, make Framber throw that curve on Sunday until he gets it right. He should't be starting WC game with sinker & change which are pretty much moving the same way.
It's looking more and more like Paredes will be back but I still think he is most likely limited to DH for the rest of 2025. That leaves Yordan in LF and Altuve at 2B in the postseason, just like the last 4 seasons- not ideal but clearly not the end of the world. And swapping out Urias or Dubon with Paredes looks very good in a lineup.
This lineup is deep enough to potentially carry a team deep into the playoffs: SS Pena DH Paredes LF Alvarez 3B Correa 2B Altuve 1B Walker RF Sanchez/Cole/Smith C Diaz CF Meyers 6 of those hitters have been well above average this season, with the other 3 (Walker, Diaz, whoever is in RF) all having shown immense ceiling. Dubon, Caratini, and Urias give them a versatile, high quality bench. It’ll be interesting to see who the odd man out is, since there’s 14 guys in the mix for 13 spots if Paredes is healthy.
Alvarez in the field scares me on so many levels. He can barely stay healthy as a DH and he's not good out there. Not quite as bad as Altuve but he's not good.
cam smith is easily our best defensive RF. Defensive replacement and plays vs LHP. he is making the 13. Sanchez/cole are both LHB. I think Sanchez likely gets the nod, but it comes down how they hit down the stretch. I think Cole is likely the odd man out unless he just forces his way on the roster with a ridiculous onslaught. Cole could beat out Urias or Dubie because of speed off the bench, but I doubt it, Their defensive value is probably higher.
In 48 years, the Mariners have only three division titles. In two weeks, that number will still be three.
