They’ve just about blown it. The way they’ve been playing for more than two months, they probably should’ve blown it sooner, but the Mariners struggled to seize the opportunity.
Might as well keep Altuve and acquire Verlander for the stat chasing to get some attendance then fill the roster with prospects to see who pans out. Lost a lot of confidence in Melton this year... still optimistic for Matthews and Cam. Half the pitching staff is still on the shelf until at least the all-star break for next year.
They need some youth, the old guys just seem to be going through the motions. Cam Smith should be playing every single day, let him struggle and work his way through, we need his energy..... Team needs some major turnover - and some energy...... DD
I wish the season ended today and we were the 6th seed. Considering we've lost 7 home playoff games in a row I would feel better taking the route the rangers took in 2023. And the Rockets in 95...
It's Stupid, should have went yesterday so he could pitch against both Texas and Seattle, now he not only misses Texas, but will only get two more starts after tomorrow. If he went tonight he would get 3 including the final game of the season. That is SO freaking important cause we might need that game to get in, and if somehow we have clinched by then you would have him for the wild card game 1 on an extra day rest still It's just not that hard But Rest em up Joe doesn't have a clue
Brown is right on the fringes of the CYA list, with a chance to finish 3rd which would net Houston a 1st round draft pick probably worth $20M or more. My guess is they are aligning their rotation to maximize the odds that Brown secures that extra draft pick AND is rested for the playoffs.
Well personally, I trust Hunter, so I would want him to get the extra start even if I was more worried about the extra pick than making the playoffs (which to be clear, as much as i'd value that extra pick, i'd never take that pick over making the playoffs. You get in you never know what can happen, especially with so many proven playoff performers) And you could very well be right on the last part, but it makes zero sense for two reasons 1. It's laughable to think this team is automatically going to be in the playoffs. We are on a free fall and Texas is only 2 back of us to knock us out. The way we are using Brown means he won't face Texas, who he has DOMINATED 2. If Hunter went tonight he would be guaranteed the opportunity to pitch on either 4 or 5 day rest for 3 more starts. But the last of those would be the final day of the season, so if we have already clinched like joe apparently thinks we have, then he could be skipped for THAT game, the final one that doesn't apparently matter against the Angels, which would leave him on an extra day of rest for the Tuesday Wild Card game
Retiring would mean he forfeits his 2026 salary, right? He'll be back and force the Astros hand to DFA him.
Lance is a tough case. Yes he has been hurt a lot and is likely done. However he also loves the Astros, the city of Houston and he loves the game of baseball… in many ways exactly the type of player fans want.
