I don't doubt Tari, and his development on the court.
The problem is that leg...his health...being able to stay out there.

I wouldn't pay him big money...too much downside risk.

But, I wouldn't just trade him away for veteran depth either.

If we're losing our youth ....
Tari, along with other assets needs to go for an impact player.

I'm not that worried about Tari's health. I think he'll do more rehab this summer and be close to 100% next season.

I'm more worried about his 3PT shot. Really like Tari, but transition and garbage points is not enough of a contribution on offense. Need him to also punish sagging defenders so that at least he's not hurting the spacing when he's on the floor. I believe he can do it, but I'd like to see it before we pay him. That defense paired with a more net positive presence on offense would be a great player and asset.

Tari’s medicals are the greatest deciding factor on his viability in receiving an extension with Jabari type money. None of us know what the Rocket’s FO knows. It is obvious that they value Jabari more or both would have been waiting for the Durant extension numbers. Whether that relative valuation
is because of play, age, potential or health is unknown to us as fans. My personal belief is that fit and the medicals are the leading factors, but who knows.

It is impossible to know who Rockets value more without inside information ( Though at least one person has said Tari is incredibly valued by Rockets). JSJ was extended as part of a group of moves that left the Rockets with a very good roster, draft capital mostly intact, 4 good young players on good contracts for at leat 2 more seasons, and only 2 players extension eligible.

It would make sense that the Rockets would want contract certainty before executing all the other moves as having 3 extension eligible players would be more difficult. JSJ is on a very tradeable contract the way it is structured. All we can reasonably know is the Rockets were more willing to sign JSJ at a deal JSJ is happy with than a deal that Tari would be happy with.

I do think short term fit may be an issue for Tari. I think he's best as a 4 (a lot of his mistakes are because he's the one guarding 3s when together with JSJ). With Durant and JSJ, he gets less chances to for his thing as he would be guarding a player that needs more attention (i.e., can't do his chaos thing).

From the reports Tari wants a deal similar to Jabari (25M) but the market for 2 way forwards have been set by DFS and Nickheil Alexander Walker which is the midlevel (15M).

This is prob where the discrepancy lies, historically speaking defensive minded SFs while extremely valuable and coveted aren't really paid much dating back to the days of Shane Battier and Trevor Ariza. But I am not worried, because in the worst case Tari Eason will take the 1 yr deal and then he'll be a restricted free agent and the Rox can match any and all offers if there are any.

There are already some hold overs and players who signed prove it deals from this FA like Cam Johnson and Gary Trent Jr and most likely Quentin Grimes, so next year its tough to see an enemy team overpaying for Tari. The main issue is Tari cant reliably handle the ball and score in isolation, hard to see another team paying him 20M+ when Josh Akogie cant get more than the minimum.

I think Tari's contract has come to a standstill for one main reason. Tari believes he's good enough to start but on this team, we need him coming off the bench.

Now, Tari's camp is probably thinking: if you want me to come off the bench, that's fine but you better pay me starter salary.

Stone probably refuses to give him what Jabari got and that's probably want Tari wants. I think there's a good chance the contract talks stalls and he gets traded mid-season as much as I wish this wasn't a distraction heading into the season.

I think if we didn't have to pay Durant as well, this Tari contract situation would be finished already. The issue is we still gotta pay Durant next year and Amen will get a max contract extension unless he doesn't improve at all this season. I'm still skeptical about Durant's fit on this team but we'll see soon enough.

Nothing to see here. This is embarrassing considering my age, but Tari is just referencing a recent Young Thug interview. And YSL is a gang lol.

    Carry on.

Bro KD is one of the best scorers in NBA history and he isnt bad at defense either. What do you mean skeptical about his fit? On a team with Amen and Sengun an elite spacer like KD is exactly who you need.

Tari's metrics before he came down with leg were DPOY-worthy. The leg is a concern.

Not sure if the leg is still a concern or not. A benign tumor is something you can heal from which it appears he has. I think he is worth investing in for that long haul but what do I know.

    Cod,
I believe in another post you mentioned that you were nervous about what might happen with Tari. Does a deal get done? I realize the shooting has to improve but he’s not that far from being a league average long-range shooter for his position, and I think he can become a plus shooter. With everything else he brings, including the best motor in the league, I don’t want to lose this guy. I’m convinced the org will get something done. Just wondering what u think.

No. I was saying he had healed up last year from the tumor and I don't think his leg will be an issue long term like some posters think.

I'm still concerned with what is offered and what Tari feels is deserved. And, I think it's likely he will view Bari's deal (in conjunction with KD's last big contract) through a quiet war between logic and emotion.

There are no Cam Whispers of unhappiness, but I sense that Tari will be the headliner in a mid season deal for our depth and a better opportunity for him. He was a highly coveted piece throughout last year, and with a strong start to the season, teams will be calling. I've heard nothing imminent and it makes sense for the Rockets to take all the time in the world after a great off-season.

Admittedly, I'm not as high in Tari as the majority of fans, so I'm hoping to be proven incredibly wrong (like...Kyle Lowry wrong )

...hoping all is well in your life!

Almost any way you look at next years cap, they are over the 1A if Durant is extended, even at "just" $50m, you give Taru $17m and you are $1.6m under the 1A with 5 open roster spots (Tate, Holiday, Green, Okogie expired on minimums).
That would put you $14.3m under the 2A with those 5 roster spots - much like this season, I could see them going with only 14 players.
It's probably a good thing financially that they don't have any draft picks to add to the cap next offseason - they can probably use the taxpayer MLE on a rotation player and fill out the final 3-4 spots with minimum guys.

Much of what they are able to do next offseason depends on how much it costs to keep Durant.
